last night at rotorua we had family friends sitting with us and the 5yr old and 3yr old came out with the funniest comments.
"look mummy that cars in timeout" (5yr after a ministock was sent infield after contact)
"look the trucks cleaning the track" (3 yr old watching the water truck after a race watering the track)
"hes a liar" (5yr old after seeing a car pass on the infield)
what other coments ahve you heard kids say at speedway??

It wasn't exactly a kid but... Last season I sat behind this guy who was telling his friend about the motorbike engines in the sprintcars My kids when they were younger used to enjoy the water truck race. As the water truck would come around they run around the track and see if they could beat it to a certain point. It was the highlight of their night. Some people are easily amused. Some kids look like the darndest things. Some of the hairstyles out there - very brave kids.

A mate's daughter asked if the cars racing (modifieds) were solar powered as they had such huge panels on the top.....
I should have been quicker thinking and had her on - saying that they eventually slow and stop once the sun goes down.....

Not Speedway but had some Teenagers round home one time. I was watching the nag's on trackside channel when one of the girls saw the trotters on telly she said she thought it was good to have disabled racing. I asked how the hell the horses could race if they were disabled? She said nooo it's the jockeys who are disabled, thats why they are in the wheelchair things!!! Apparently her dad forgot to tell her that he was winding her up.

We were at palmy this year watching the sprint cars at one of the early meetings in the season, the track dried up & the dust got bad. My now 4yr old son turned round to me (& there were a few other familys around us) & said "Dad im sick of these f..kin dirt flickers can we go home" I could only laugh lol! The look on the faces of the people around us was priceless!

A mate's daughter asked if the cars racing (modifieds) were solar powered as they had such huge panels on the top..... I was asked by my 14 year old cousin if a midget was solar powered. The first thing that might give that impression was the carbon fibre rocker cover on that particular car, but she pointed to the radior

Not speedway orkids ...
We'd finished up our official bits for the day once on a Targa rally and decided to go spectate on a corner we thought would bear watching.
Targa use places like schools to provide block marshalls - the schools get a juicy donation and the parents and teachers get to watch from the best viewing spots. For a lot of them it's the only time in the year they see a rally up close, but some things do stick in the mind from one year to the next.
"Are they coming soon ?" "Fairly soon. The ooooooh car has been past, next we get the ooh car and then the oh car and then the race starts"
;D Gary
