Derbies are not only interesting to watch, they are an important step in introducing people to the thrills of racing speedway. Many drivers have started racing competitively only after competing in a derby or two. I beleive they are an important part of speedway!

they are fun to be apart of if you never raced, but on other side they make a mess of track and you spend weeks getting crap out of track, worse for wide wheel cars, as a note huntly dont have them

When we were kids in a low income family Dad could only afford to take us a few times a year and Demo Derby nights were always included in those times. They are certainly a drawcard for the occassional spectator and some of those turn into regulars who spend quite a bit of cash at speedway tracks all over the place every season. They have a place as a drawcard most definitely. But I do think at most Derby meetings more should be done to turn on top quaility speedway to win over the casual visitor.

Used to go and watch them and had a go racing in several and they where enjoyable, before I started being involved with crewing in stockcars. Then my preferences of watching did change...but have to agree its a good start to get people interested in speedway.

my view is they are awsum!! ive entered 10 of them at wiakaraka park and enjoyed every 1 of them. the first 1 i eva entered was with a guardian consent form so i was able to drive doing that before i even drove on the public roads. nothing like being out on a slush track with around 100 other cars, the most i ever went out on the track with was 120 something so they even decided that you could circulate on the infield. its great for young and old , male and female. and you only have to watch kikohe demolition to see how much of a following it has in such different regions. plus its a excellent way to give a car its send off to the car crusher and if its a good enough demo car you may get more than 1 ride out of it.

Demos are alsum to watch and drive in, and agree its a good starting point to speedway. You find alot of the drivers that think derbies should go are the same guys that think productions should go. Just my thoughts

SSaw one at one SNZ track where in some of the cars had concrete in the doors so that put me right off from then on

osh never took our ramp away Scottie there were too many people getting injured as a result of either going over them or from others hitting another car as they were going over them at our track. Now you must have enjoyed most of your class mates and the street stock guys racing in the last one and they also got a fair amount of speed up & a fair amount of hitting in. Rumour has it a few of them have already entered for the April one.
