Well, lets have a looksie at what everyone else got up to on the day..... (all posted photographs are here... s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk234/Huntlyvids/Meremere%20Dirt%20Track%201%20Feb%2009/ ) Ever wondered how commentators know so much stuff? Heres a pick of a few race snaps. These were taken on my Fuji instead of Yaz's Nikon... it did alright for what is essentially a grown up point and shoot.... Here be some shots taken before our passenger rides... I should say that it was pretty hair raising, but in all honesty I can say it was mind blowing and a hell of a rush. This beats any footage shot from incar or otherwise. The races we were shotgun in were for places in the class feature, and the drivers did not hold back. If you want to see speedway from a track view perspective without the hassle of owning a car, this is the best way to do it. And lastly, this is what could have happenned to us had we won the rookies race.... Still, thanks to Yaz for shots of me here, and to Gary for posting the shots of us, and to Keith for shooting the video. Also to Hooncorp for setting things up, and to Shane de Baugh for loaning me the Escort at the last minute.

Ahhh, the look in Yaz's eyes of smiling terror.
Well done guys on turning up and both riding in a 'full on' race and driving one of your own. Like commentating, it looks easy but getting on the other side of the camera took a LOT of guts.
Thanks again to Chairman and his pretty qualified side-kick Keith Barnhill on the video. The day looked pretty grim weather wise, but turned out to be awesome and the track went slick with 10 or so races to go. You guys are always welcome, and hope to see you back in whatever capacity you want to exercise.
I have informed some of the drivers of those awesome photos, and Im sure they will be in touch to purchase their favourites.
Oh, and on the Trivia book, (a gift from the mother in law), the covers says 'the fastest recorded sneeze was 166.7 km/h'. And they would know that how?? Ewww !!

It'll be Gary and Keith's turn next I think, Hooncorp... Especially after a couple of the remarks picked up by the video camera..... I would like to see them put their money where their mouths were at 1m:25s into the clip ;D ;D ;D nz.youtube.com/watch?v=IkqpSFECu3E&feature=channel_page

That was Keith, don't drag me into it ;D Anyway, they'd never find overalls to fit. Mike, he did keep making hmmmm noises about some of the v8's and what sort of fun he could have in them - particularly the red one with the wing as big as the car, the white saloon, and the ones that came out to play in the group of 4. Not that I'm suggesting you arrange a challenge or anything, good lord no. I'd never suggest putting him out there with Yaz and Ed and see if he really could lap them once for every lap of the race, honestly I'm going to Palmy with him this weekend, and naturally I'll be reporting on any challenges laid down oops interesting posts made about last weekend. Just thought I'd mention that. ;D Gary

I knew it was keith who made that claim, but I didn't hear any disagreement tones ;D We'll see what happens. I suggest putting me into that rather hot looking HC Viva, Yaz into that blue limited saloon, and Keith into an Escort production saloon. If he's as good as he says he is, then he should win easily. ;D I wait with bated breath.

Just had a chance to watch AND listen to that you tube link. Keith was a bit harsh from the viewpoint of expecting better, but is actually quite a good pedal'er and would jump at a chance to have a drive, so Keith, you are invited.
3 points from that footage tho;
1: Jeff the starter was WAY too hasty in waving and removing the green flag before both Yaz and Eddie sighted it on the front straight. No excuses.
2: Eddie did very well towards the end of the race when the blue Corvette caught him and wanted to pass for the chequered flag, but Eddie wouldn't have a bar of it and held the attack off very well.
3: Yaz waz in the Yellow and Black Honda. Can you spot the G string attatched to the rear of the car? She didn't know it was there either !!
Big ups for being brave and having a lot of fun. Well done guys, you were top notch guests and you are all welcome back anytime.

I couldnt even see the green in the video As Huntly etc usually pull the yellows in after the last car goes past the starters box on the formation lap, thats how I judge when to fire up the video cameras when filming so you can see where I made the mistake of thinking we were still in formation. I'll know better next time. As for Mr. Barnhill... good peddler he may be, and I don't doubt it for a second - I've worked with Keith at RATS for a couple of years now and despite his comments in the clip have a lot of respect for the guy. But is he good enough to lap the field 5 times as per his claim though? Maybe we should make this interesting for him. Suggestions? I think 5 times is a little unrealistic but start him a lap down to go for a win (and a bucket of dirty water) ;D ;D

You probably didn't hear what I replied because I wasn't standing next to the camera and there were race cars going past. [comments about Keith's driving removed - wouldn't want to spoil any surprises] Not seeing the green does explain a thing or two about your race, and yes agreed you did well to hold the blue car out. When did the G String appear ? It wasn't there in the morning but it was there for the race before Yaz took the car out. Mike, I'm actually not keen on selling photos (I don't sell nearly enough for it to be worth the tax hassle). I'd rather just give away the odd print or give you a CD of it and let the club sell them as a fundraiser, but did I hear you say something about someone who normally does the photos ? I've been in a situation before where a new photog inserted themselves into someone elses infield, it's despicable ;D and I won't do it to someone else. Cheers Gary

I have sent an email to Keith ... Your comment while you were videoing Yaz and Ed's race that you could lap the entire field 5 times came out very well on the video, and has been the subject of some discussion.
As a result Mike has invited Ed and Yaz back, and you too. Ed said a 5 lap handicap is probably a bit much so I think the idea is that you'll be started a lap down, and instead of getting a bucket of water if you win you'll get a bucket of water if you don't win. Or something ...
;D Gary

Poor old Keith. This 2nd in charge to Targa NZ has seemingly opened a tin of worms and now it seems may have more than Yaz and Eddie to contend with. This is the rumour I hear Mr Chairman, are you able to update on this detail? Will we be seeing a rematch on the 22nd Feb or is it too early to say? What about a few commentators in there for good measure? Some of them may even be able to drive !! ?? Hooncorp.

Texts have been exchanged during the day....
From Chairman: "Keith accepts the challenge, says he will start 5 lap novice race race at the front of the grid a lap down and win easily"
I replied (paraphrased as my phone is not set to save sent texts) I was thinking of starting him a lap down from the rear of the grid, we don't want it to be too dull for him.
Chairman replied: "Its not going to be dull, petrolfumes just told Keith it'll be him doing the lapping not Keith. Nope, not gonna be dull"
This will get interesting folks... Gary's going to post more detail when he gets back from Palmy... lets see... Fumes doing the running, me going flat out having figured out the flag system... a couple of blockers... nope... its not going to be dull at all.
