Anybody else suprised by the fact that Aaron and John ( commentators ) left after the second round of racing at WP yesterday, we certainly were ? Aaron said that John had shot off on his motorbike and he was going as "it is hard to get excited and commentate to a crowd of 100-150 people". He thanked everyone and said he hoped to see everyone at WP next time. Aarons commentary up until then was very good and informative until that point. I know it was only a $5 club day but to go from full on commentary to nothing was a surprise. Makes for a strange meeting and we left three races later.

I think the posters had better hold off until AD explains himself... it's still too soon after the 'despicable' remark was posted...

I am not having a go at WP more like expressing my surprise at what happened and how it came about. Like I said his commentary was very good and informative before he left. From memory , there were 6 Superstocks, 13 Stockcars, 5 Streetstocks, 21 Ministocks, 3 Super Saloons, 5 Saloons, 1Mod and 1 Minisprint. Stockcars were superb and virtually all contact and no flag racing. Rose Halfpenny managed to successfully roll herself while trying to do the same to ( 95a ? ). One of the reasons I was disappointed that the commentary stopped from Aaron was that he was giving some excellent info on who was driving what cars eg Lance Jennings trying the Malar ( spelling ) Super Saloon. I know it was a $5 club day and had been to one at WP pre xmas. I wasnt expecting the commentators to leave but there may have been a valid reason

Hi There.....
Just some clarification:
1 John Duffy and myself volenteer our time to attend on Club Meetings at no charge to the club. These meetings are above what our agreement is with the club for the season, but we do to assist the patrons and have a little fun.
2 Ian Abrahams who is the promotor was not there and although had been there earlier had to leave prior to the start of the meeting.
3 John Duffy was not well and had the flu had was generally we felt we were repeating oursleves and had we just carried on and on we proberlly would have been coplained about anyway. I had a call from a client who wanted to meet with me so in light of that I Spoke to the acting Clerk of the Course who said "yeah thats fine you can go"
4 As for our comments regarding not exciting, I was refering to the 1 Modified vs 1 Minisprint on the track. I was being honest. If it was represented in any other way then accept my appolgies.
I enjoy working at WP, however I need to point out that I dont like Sunday shows as although it is relaxing etc and a chance to iron out the cars problems, it does nothing to enhance the racing for the bigger shows. In some cases we get more cars in certain classes on a Sunday than a Saturday night? Whats all that about! Sunday racing is Kihikihi and they do a good job and get support from people!
The Stockcars and SuperStocks were entertaining. If I have offended anyone by my comments or by leaving early please accpet my appologies. We as commenators do try to enhance the show but we are only as good as the numbers that dictate that turn up.
Feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss this with me further.
Regards
Aaron Drever

Thanks for your explanation Aaron and definitely havent taken offence. Far from it, I appreciate your honesty. I like you prefer the Saturday nite shows and as I have said earlier wasnt expecting huge racing but enjoyed what was there particularly the stockcars.

Perhaps the club meetings could also trial a few people who want to give commentating a go.
Might uncover the next Barry Brown

I'd suggest giving some of the Ministock kids a go - Christian Hermansen did the last race at Stratford on Saturday night. Not too bad either...........although I'd suggest finding the next Paul Hickey would be a better idea ;D

Might uncover the next Barry Brown omg that a great idea, must say having been in the box in huntly a few times and had the chance to have a go it aint that easy and would take some real practise, it amazing how these guys call the races, think i could handle the roving mike talking to the drivers and crowd but to call a race properly and intrestingly well yeah ;D ;D

Leaving during a race? What could a client offer you that the thrill of motorsport couldn't? My goodness !!
Perhaps Jamie could be persuaded to lower himself to enter the hallowed turf of 'the park' and do some hard work without the cameras pointing at him after church on Sunday.
Seems he is keen on the big events, maybe if the price is right??

What?? you just got up and left?? that really is poor. But then leadership comes from the top, if the promoter cant stay for his own show why should the help stay. very unprofessional.

The promoter was at Rosebank Road watching the bikes, by all accounts the meeting at WP ran noticeably smoother in his absence. Now we just need to find how much they will charge us to keep him. ;D In Dreaves defence . . . . . . he's a real estate agent and he left to sell a house. I havent asked him, but one might think he might of stayed if it was the dirt cup or the teams event. Who cares what happens on a club day?

I would have thought that seeing as lots of people on lots of threads mention sticking to and enforcing rules I would assume that it was actually OK for them to leave if the Clerk of the Course OK'ed it? And I suppose it's hard to be labelled unprofessional for leaving something you are volunteering to do anyway. And knowing how much Estate Agents make from selling a house, I would have left too ;D

Just to be clear, I'm don't actually think it was a great idea to leave. I'm sure I would have been a little peeved if the commentators left part way through. Just trying to be diplomatic ;D
