Outside of an NZ Champs final, would the field for the Dirt Cup be the best quality field for a single event this season. Entrants include - Current 1NZ
- Current 3NZ (also been 1NZ in another class)
- Current North Island Champ
- Current Auckland and Taranaki Champ and defending champ
- Four Time Winner of the event (and ex 1NZ)
- Current BOP Champ
- Two other ex 1NZ's
That's 40% of the field (give or take) that has either a current or past NZ title or is a regional title holder. Struggling to think of another event that could boast the same stats (although I'm sure someone will have a good go at it)

I challenge you to check the stats and back up your comments. Pick a Midget, Sprintcar, Saloon or Superstock race and see if it contains 5 ex or current 1NZ's and multiple previous winners of the same event (plus the other title holders).
If there is one my money would be on the Saloons as Wakeling and Jones' dominance of the Sprinters does limit the number of recent 1NZ's to choose from.
Like I said, I'm quite happy to be proven wrong but I've done my research, now do yours and list the stats.

Nice work Dreves, can live with the first 5 on the list but there seems to be a lot of "formers" in the rest..........didn't ask for that.
Assuming the top 5 were all in the 50 Lapper last night can you please also list if there were any current regional and Island Champs in there and also (multiple) past winners of the event

So, no surprises that the 50 lapper "appears" to come out on top.
But given it is probably THE premiere Open Wheel event out of ALL the classes and pays a truckload of prizemoney, its' no wonder it attracts a top class field, including international drivers, like moths to a flame.
Dirt Cup looks like its' still running 2nd though, any more takers?

yeah but even on a normal night with no americans, all those drivers we listed race there every meeting.

Epmurc, we haven't even started with the 50 lapper as we haven't mentioned the achievements of the Americans. As Damo points out all those Kiwi guys are there every meeting.
No doubt the Modified field is a good one but it's no better than what we see every meeting across town.
It's enough to get me to Waikaraka Park for the first time this season but to call it the "best field for a single event" is stretching it.
It's probably the best field for a Modified event outside the NZ Title but lets not get too carried away.

How would world of stocks finals night field compare... considering you have to be 1,2 or 3 NZ and island and 1 or 2 GP to make the field unless you qualify thru other means

I was asking a question, not making a statement that it was the best field. The list of midget drivers you present is classy indeed, but it does throw up an interesting observation. Follow this link for a list of NZ Midget Champions over the years www.speedwayarchive.co.nz/default.asp?Page=MidgetNZand it seems to suggest that there has never really been any consistent and genuine quality midget drivers outside of Auckland.......ever! Or would this be because until recently, there was never really anywhere outside the Springs for them to race, in which case it's no challenge to assemble a quality field when you have a monopoly on the venue.

It's obvious ain't it??
A feild with only 8 cars....
Involving Nelson and Palmy..
You do the math of titles been won from all of them drivers.

There is NO beating the World of Stocks at Rotorua.
Last year, the 1nz, 2nz and 3nz
1st, 2nd and 3rd in the NI Champs
1st, 2nd and 3rd in the SI Champs
1st and 2nd in the GP
All current champions of course.......this year will be no different
