The size of the prize money is the main reason 13r has chosen not to enter this event, and I, possibly, would be one of Gizzy's biggest supporters and most disappointed not to be there!
In the future, I suggest, to secure more entries from saloon drivers, increase the travel allowance to better reflect costs incurred to travel and stay over (minimum $400), and reduce the prize amounts and differentials. You'll end up with more cars, closer racing and fewer protests.
Most saloon competitors are on a tight budget and generally receive little, if any, support by way of sponsors and or prize money payouts.

My thoughts are very similar to Murrays, and we would have probably supported the meeting as we have in the past ,but it clashes with beating up the women at Stratford which we have also supported in the past. As for the traveling not that many Saloons travel to far. And as Murray points out the cost of travel, accom and running cost are all fairly similar . But the faster cars get the most prize money and probably cover their costs quite often, but without us slow fellas to pass, theres not much of a race. So better travel less prize could work ,most of us try to win even if it's just for a moro bar . Cheers 77k
... A number of Question came to mind ..
Are we becoming a nation of "Competeing is Better than Wining"?
Is Travel Money Really more important Than Prize Money?
Whats Fair ... Paying more cos there cars worth more? or Paying due to Mileage traveled?
Is one class worth more than another class? Who Decides?
What the NATIONAL Standard? Should there be one?
Should tracks pay travel for NATIONAL Titles?
WHO KNOWS?
