Having watched a number of sprintcar races this season it seems that sprintcars seem to be racing like stockcars.
Every single meeting I've been to, there has been carnage.
Okay I know sometimes some contact can't be helped, but in some of these races I have seen the drivers seem to be taking each other out rather than concentrating on racing.
Is there any rules or regulations regarding the contact in this class?
I personally love going to speedway to watch the sprintcars but it seems alot like watching stockcar racing.
Just wondering if anyone else thought the same?

very good point. unfortunatley just about all NZ tracks are stock car tracks that are out of date and far too narrow for sprint cars, modifieds, saloons and super saloons which is why most big meetings with big feilds of these classes seem to end up with wrecked cars :'(and unhappy drivers. saying its the same for everyone is admitting that crap is acceptable, which it isnt. its interesting (and sad) that the two best proper speedway tracks in the lower nth island are non snz (ferndene and harrisville). perhaps its time for more meetings at these tracks(yes please)

Meremere Speed Bowl is what is required for Sprintcar Racing..... not far away from Auckland and Tauranga and could host
Sprintcars (up to 35 on the track) Midgets up to 40 on the track Super Saloons up to 30 on the track Saloons (up to 30 on the track) MiniSprints up to 30 on the track
What a great show that would be.......
Running Twiglight Show kicking off at 3.00pm with Heats and Dashes then having D Mains, C Mains, B Mains and A Main FINALS
You can run under SNZ but dont have too and only have to run 6 meetings a year
1 round of International Sprintcar Series 1 round of National Midget Car Series 1 round of International Midgets 1 round of National Super Saloon Car Series Plus all Track Champs
They could keep the boats on the infeild and just temp fence the infeild off.....
Some ground manitance, new saftey fence, track work, tidy the clay wall up and you are racing!
Food for thought!

1/3 mile 27 degree banking (before dropped over years)
think Baypark width straights and corners and add 25%+

Thanks for some of them comments.
Some of the tracks etc seem to fine for managing the sprintcars.
I think some of the drivers need to realise that they are in a sprintcar not stockcar. I understand that the sprintcars can be costly to fix depending on the damage to the car.
Some of them it seems... don't get me wrong racing is racing and sometimes contact is made when the driver has no where to go but... some of the drivers seem to drive into or try and ride over other cars on purpose.
That's the way it seems to me anyway.
I thought this was meant to be a non contact sport and was just wondering if there was any regulations in place regarding this?
Racing has been a part of my life for the past 30 odd years, but there seems to be more contact than ever and it seems that some of the drivers are just out there to take others out just so they can get past etc...

Ruapuna's one of the regular tracks I watch the sprintcars at. Or down south depending on the meetings down there.

Ruapuna is the best SNZ track for exciting sprintcar racing.

Ruapuna is the best SNZ track for exciting sprintcar racing. Or rather un-exciting "spinnedcar" action for that matter too! Sdemon

plus there are so many new comers coming into sprintcars and they are learning so can make the odd mistake which we should all expect as these things require alot of skill ...but its a good thing as we need more drivers getting into them ..plus most tracks have concrete walls for stockcars and they are less forgiving for sprintcars

All you have to do is put up a lazy $20K or so prize money and bingo... Ferndene could become a part of the international sprint car series next year. Then all you need is to promote the show to ensure that at least a few thousand (but hopefully more) fans front up prepared to pay $25-$30 each to see the show and wallah - you're in business. I heard on the grape-vine that the gate take from this years meet at Te Maura was about $75K. Hopefully you get it right and don't go down the gurgler. ;D

sorry all, if i gave you the impression that we at ferndene had the desire to run an international sprintcar meet here, it was not my intention. I was responding to a comment about a wish to see sprintcars back on our wide, banked, quarter mile clay track, and as this thread appeared to be about nz sprint car race meetings, I wanted to say if drivers are keen to visit, we are keen to discuss the possibility of holding a meeting here in the future. cheers Mike Sherning pres Ferndene speedway.
