Interesting post. This the date I originally looked at for NZ Sprint Car title but the glen got in first. We have not officially set a date as yet for The NZ Sprint Car Title to be held in Cromwell. This date once set will be put on Macs for all to see.

Hopefully it might be the week before or the week after Phil? Having the Superstocks and Super Saloons a week apart certainly enticed a fair number of us North Islanders to the Mainland for a couple of weeks. Mind you, reading one SI website after our last sojourn, it makes one wonder if our patronage is actually wanted or not............ www.thepits.racing.org.nz/featuredstories/nzsuperssaloons09.htmlCan you confirm for us Phil, following the review process following the NZ Super Saloons, whether spectator cars will or won't be allowed onto the public-viewing embankment for the NZ Sprintcar Championship? And what will be done to seperate the louts from the families? It will be a fantastic venue for the Sprinters, I'm sure......

How are the dates awarded? I thought tracks applied to SNZ for dates and SNZ had the final say.
Not the case?

I saw the date for the Mods in CHCH on the SNZ site a couple of weeks back and seeing as though I will already in the south island the week prior, I took another week off so we can go to CHCH for the weekend to soak up the Mod Champs!@
Hope the clash can be sorted.
Looking forawrd to it already. ;D

given that SNZ have approved plenty of other date clashes (this years NZ Sprintcars & Midgets for example) I say whats the drama? do Sprintcar and Modified people really see a conflict? how many people does it effect- a couple of hundred and 1 or 2 drivers (and maybe SNZ directors who might miss out of a trip to one or the other? I think an Easter NZ Championship would be dumb!no room to move if it snows in Central! Why not a week earlier for Cromwell if SNZ says no...screw the North Islands International series- perhaps it should start a week earlier

The ideal obviously is for the NZ Sprintcar champs to be run at Cromwell in the holiday season so as to get the best possible crowds. This not only benefits the gate but also benefits the class as well, as many of the spectators in this HOLIDAY area will be first timers. It also has the ability for RUAPUNA speedway to provide an (add on) for the visiting drivers from the north to help make the trek south, worth while. Quite frankly I would like to see both nationals and it is up to Cromwell, Ruapuna and Woodford Glen to organise their schedules accordingly. No rocket science needed here, just basic organisation. I don't think we should depend on SNZ or SPANZ to sort this. Simple really; just get together.

I'd certainly be keen on doing them both if they were staged a week apart, but probably neither if that didn't happen to be the case......but promotions have to do what suits their club best overall, not just one or two spectators. They need to try and attract as many competitors and as many spectators as possible, so there will always be date clashes.
This summer the most NZ title meetings any one spectator could attend was seven (of 12), although it was possible to witness 8 titles decided if one of your chosen meetings was the double-header at PN for the Solos and Sidecars. One weekend saw 3 staged together, in Cromwell, Blenheim and Huntly, with other clashes being between Woodford Glen and Palmerston North, and also Nelson and Palmerston North.

I believe it is a total misconception that different classes have different supporter base's. Sure most of us have our favourite class, but we attended championship meetings for 7 different classes this season and met many of the same traveling supporters at most of them.
What most of us, that spend a lot traveling to view speedway look for, is maximizing our viewing opportunities for our $.
Nelson following the NZ superstocks with the GP is a great example of what the traveling spectator is looking for.
Mods and Sprintcars within a week would certainly be appealing to at least hundreds of supporters. Maybe getting a travel company on board as a sponsor and offering a package deal for both would be helpful to putting Northern butts on seats.

can't understand how a sprintcar fan could get excited over modifieds.
Moifieds are so slow boring and downright ugly.

Fair call Jamo can't understand how a sprintcar fan could get excited over modifieds. Moifieds are so slow boring and downright ugly. last time I saw modifieds on the same track as midgets and TQs both the midgets AND the TQs were lapping faster. Could very easily be the best Midget racing of the season. Sadly Sprintcars or even better Modifieds are not running, which is a great pity. Surely you wouldn't want modifieds on the same program as midgets and TQs? That would show up just how slow ugly and boring they are. I don't see what the problem is. completely different classes with completely different fan bases.

3 NZ Titles in the South Island next season being held at Woodford Glen, Cromwell and Ruapuna. I think it would be to the benefit of all three tracks to have the titles close together as I believe a number of spectators would attend two, if not three meetings.
Here is my proposed schedule
8/9 January Woodford Glen NZ Modified Title 11/12 January Cromwell NZ Sprintcar Title 15/16 January Ruapuna NZ TQ Title (+ Sprintcars)
Should work with Western Springs as they normally run Jan 2nd(ish) and then late January.
