I see Pickens got 2nd in the 40 lapper, but how did he really go in the mighty V8 midget he was driving last night.
where did he start from and how did he seem to come to grips with the different car.
with the power of that car and his skill, thought he may have cleared out ??

In the clubrooms afterwards Michael did say the car has the most incredible power, but there was a small fuelling issue that they were sorting and he also gave some feedback to Simon on things they could to make it faster. the wheel stands many of the top drivers were pulling was pretty lively and after 40 laps there wasn't much left of some tyres. there was so many lead changes, minor place changes and very few stops for yellows, the open wheel teams really struted their stuff and showed just how slick they could be

a bit off topic but I believe the ladies are racing stocks and prods as well, David. Team Triples and Waikato Modifieds run on Saturday.

from a drivers point of view, that was an awesome night, by far the best track surface in the country to allow wheel to wheel driving like that....

As Mintie said above, the lap record went a number of times in the TQs - they were flying. A good balance of classes which didn't rip up the track too much. It got a little dusty in the 40 lapper (which is something photographers prefer didn't happen because it screws up our flashes something chronic) but it was fast, close and extremely exciting, even those that chased me brought a smile to my face

The track was the best I've seen in a long while, no medium or big ruts during my 2 races. Track wasnt dusty the whole night which is perfect for spectators, competitors and photographers The midget 40 lapper was the highlight of everyones night I reckon. Loved the hard, fast, close racing done by some of the lightest, and fastest class in NZ. It amazes how they throw those light-weight things around. Great racing by all that night. Hopefully the racer who got put in the ambo is ok, missed the whole thing as I was in the dummy grid.

was a great surface for open wheel racing and that was obviously helped by no stocks or high horse power wide wheel cars, there was some dust during the night but due to not much wind it was going more up than out

That was one of the best nights racing ive seen in years in all classes.i don't think many guys could have driven the 88a beast as well as pickens did. the throttle control needed to keep it on the ground and off the wall was amazing. i was surprised to see his fastest lap in the 40 lapa was 14-7945 it looked way faster than that. To anwser TANK Brian Edwards won 3 from 3 and his 4th straight feature with his fastest lap in the feature of 14-38 [lap record is 14-35] nealy lapping his old man in the process.
