Four fronted that I know of; 17R Grant Swindlehurst, 18R Dennis Hanson, 22R Glen Lloyd and 666R Matt Fergusson.
Mod numbers at Rotorua always go up and down. If you look over the last decade sometimes they have 10 sometimes they have 0.
All that is needed is for the Auckland & Huntly Mods is to sit down with the Rotorua promotion and work out 4 meetings where they agree to turn up with 10-12 cars next season to ensure Mods have an on going presence at Rotorua.

Unfortunatly mod numbers are not looking good for next year either. 15R - Unsure if he will race next year. 16R - Unsure yet weather we will run this car, have to find a driver first. 17R - Will do meetings he can. 18R - Car for sale, not fussed if its not sold but at that price it will sell. 22R - Car for sale, unable to do meetings due to other commitments. 58R - Car still for sale. 666R - Car sold. I do hope there is some new drivers coming thru for next year but at this stage there could only be 2 for 09/10.

That is some somber reading. Hopefully its just a phase, at the bottom of its cycle, and numbers will increase soon. Sadly, Greymouth has gone the same way, with only three mods "on the coast" now, one of which is based in Westport... On the opposite end of the spectrum, the class is booming here in Stratford, and perhaps we may see the remaining R cars here a bit more often through next season? Drew

It is really sad to see but with good numbers in Stratford and Auckland and numbers picking up at Huntly once again the class should be ok for next season. I do think the 3 tracks need to work together ALOT to help the class more.

Drew Yeah thats strange, the Coast seemed to be gaining momentum for a while. Any idea where they have all dissapeared to Drew?? That I can think of there was at one point........... 6GM Brandon Parkinson - Stll around and going well. 7GM Stephen Thompson - Looked to be a rising superstar then sold the Lindsay Hughes Mod to Invercargill. Surely we haven't seen the last of him? 32GM Iain Whyte - Was one of the only GM Mods in the late 90"s. Bought a new Lovelady a couple of seasons ago but seems to have dissapeared. 33GM Robbie Brown - I see he is still involved in the Club side of thing but can't remember the last time I saw his ex 29C Harris Godzilla on track. 67GM Nigel Nevin - Still racing but back as a 'C'

Getting off the original subject somewhat - but on the topic of Stephen Thompson, last I knew he made a brief return to where he started out and campaigned a T.Q. midget (out of Nelson I think) pretty sure it's the one listed on the For Sale board now 88n?.....
Sad loss to ANY class a very talented and somewhat under-rated driver IMO....
Looks as if the ol' "Modifieds Are Fine" statement is looking grim...numbers seem to be down at the tracks - I assume many are just tucked up in garages at the moment???

Hopefully the 94GM Mod may do a few more meetings next season. Good to hear Thompson has been racing a bit to Sdemon, maybe the racing he did this season has got him keen to come back full time. Preferably in a Mod of course

Sdemon Far from looking grim at Woodford Glen I'd say. I work with 1 'new to the modified class' driver - who bought the 'steal' of the year with 69W, he has had another guy around to his garage this week who sat in the ex 69w, & now is actively looking for a car for next season. Know a midget driver who once sells his midget will go & buy a modified immediately. The way macgors member 'mayberacermaybenot' has been actively asking q&a's on modifieds for sale on trademe (trademe user name jono.wilson992) anythings possible. He will set the world on fire that man....

im sure it been thought about ,but will say it, why dont the drivers of, wp, huntly and vegas, get together, like the north island minisprint club, actually put stratford and welly in there, and try to work together between the drivers and promotions, to ensure good fields therefore great racing, just my 2 cents worth

Problem is "work together between the drivers and promotions" means promotions listening to drivers, and heaven forbid other promotions Would make a good tui billboard

Good to hear - shame that like the other winged V8 class they "really" only have one full-time track to run at - the sprintcars "war of the wings" series has been a god-send for the class, but still not really working as far as boosting numbers at the other tracks that they run at, Cromwell being maybe the exception......I'll watch the progression of both these classes over the next while with great interest. Has Gary had any interest in the midget yet??? Sdemon

Yes, I agree with you re not really having more than one full time track to run at. Each grade has their loyal following but it makes it hard to 'showcase' them off to new fans etc.
