The Demon Energy Drink sponsored cars of Jayden and Graeme Ward had a busy week in sunny Palmerston North.
Most of the week was spent straightening the chassis and repairing suspension and steering on Graemes #97P Stockcar after a buising couple of nights at Meeanee last weekend, in preparation for the Manawatu Stockcar Champs.
Friday night was spent getting Jaydens #197P ministock ready, then the last minute seemed to arrive quickly and it was off to race at Palmy.
I took quite a few pics, I'll add more to this thread as I can.
At work on 97P
It took over 50 tons of pressure to straighten the chassis back to normal after Meeanee. Those HB boys play hard.
Friday night prep work on #197 Ministock, by the way... this competitive car is for sale.
All's good on Saturday morning . Thanks to Tony and his crew and to Rob Miers for providing the powerful pump jack.
Go Slideways didn't run anyone over in the pits and stuck to the 5mph rule.
Hot Rod Heaven
Ikey Hautapu's ride
Paul Harris drove at Palmy for Kelvin Grey
Dave Tarrant's Superstock was part of the Placemakers final.
Joblin Motorsport have got a great package with the new #52P Superstock.
I loved the hard core look of the clear coat finish on the Keith Gill chassis.
The only improvement I'd suggest Scott's team make to this car is to make it maximum LOUD like Simon Joblins #72P. (The 2nd best sounding Superstock in the land).
We love to hear the wonder of the thunder.
I'm told that this car is "Gangsta phat Gee"
I said "Hard."
Scott Joblin piloted this Keith Gill engineered missile to victory, beating off the big guns Shane Penn & Malcolm Ngatai in the process - in just his 5th ever Superstock meeting.
Scott's the one on the other side of the car with the curly hair.
He had fun with the big Ford V8 from Las Vegas - the chassis set-up on this car gets a lot of power to the ground.
I think Ron Chapfeild from Otorahanga tunes the motor in New Zealand, but I'll check.
I was on the phone to Mitty at the time & took the next couple of pics with my cellphone, thats why they are a bit blurry.
The NZ Superstock Champs are in Kihikihi next season, home of one of the most powerful Ford V8 Superstocks in the land - it'll be mean. Be there.
Graeme Ward came 2nd in the first heat of the Manawatu Stockcar Champs to Rob Miers. Graeme was running in 2nd place (from grid 29) in heat 2 when he had to pull out due to engine failure. His was one of at least half a dozen on the night.
The giant TV screen offers compelling viewing.
Wing Nut observed this crash safely
#34P of Rob Mason beside #35P of Ken MacDonald
#56P Daniel Charlton
Malcolm & Megan and their crew were there, as usual.
I gave Mal the Frankie Wainman Junior shirt and he was happy.
I hope all NZ speedway people support Malcolms fundraiser to take on the poms, "over there". He and his family have sacrificed a lot to keep fans like me happy this season.
Good luck "over there" Malcom, and yeah - Go the mighty Panthers
Go the mighty Panthers
Go the mighty Panthers
Peter Rees aggressively committed driving style carried on the Palmy traditions set by Big Bad Charlie, Dave Evans, Bill Dorn, Gary Parkes and Co. Awesome. Love the black wing on his car. Go the mighty Panthers.
Ex 1NZ & former Panther, Graeme Ward, operates a very happy team & has a lot of supporters
The Evolution applied paint on both cars has stood up well, and still looks good at the seasons end.
Cameron Renwicks Stockcar
The #72P battleship of Tony Norman
Brad Ridlands 5K Superstock from Kihikihi had gearbox issues on the night.
The well built Ward cars looked good, as usual.
Olly demonstrated great pitmanship & was happy to be part of the team again.
Graeme crewed for Jayden Wards #197P Ministock
Jaydens car goes as good as it looks, it's very competitive in a very competitive class, and for sale.
{Black and Blue}
Thanks for pushing us off the track when we had an engine problem #51P
The engine problem,
Bundy drove both these cars on the night.
One of the best roll-overs at Palmy this year was early in the season & executed by Peter Locke at the wheel of #44P.
The wall-of-death passing manuvore combined with the dive bomb frontal attack to roll a competitor on the start/finish straight, then wheelspinning away was supremely cool.
Rob Mason may well have bought shares in the duct tape Company.
The well respcted Ron Tye in the black hat.
ROB MIERS WON THE 2009 MANAWATU STOCKCAR CHAMPIONSHIP
MALCOLM NGATAI WON THE 2009 PLACEMAKERS SUPERSTOCK SERIES
Jordan Russ crews for 10W Saloon and made this sculptor of his favorite Superstock, Scott Joblins #52P Cool.
Jordan Russ' step-dad, Todd Moffatt, got a 2nd placing in the Manawatu Saloon Champs.
Our back-up driver could do with a wax job, tint, pedicure and more...
from the very keen speedway supporters who run Sanctum Health & Beauty Spa in Victoria Avenue, Palmy.
Support those who support our sport.
Send ya wife, girlfriend or even both there, go yourself but sorry, no ~ they don't do pets.
Finn says "Gidday Uncle Bill, look at me now mate! Later dog.!!!"
Darn, I appear to have put the same picture on twice...
Graeme Ward and long-time Palmy speedway supporters
I'll add more pics as I get time
