I had the sad news from Ted Tracey a little while ago that his dad passed away last night.A notice will be put in the paper shortly. Brian was the driving force behind Ted that made him so great. My heart goes out to Ted and the family. Another Champion gone forever but will not be forgotten. RIP Brian.

Another of my boyhood heroes has passed on to that great race track in the sky. And while it is inevitable that old age will take all these motor racing greats away from us, Brian Tracey will always be linked to two of my special heroes who were tragically taken before they had a chance to think about old age, Des McCollum and Johnny Mansel. Brian and Des were great mates during the Epsom stockcar days, and Brian had a couple of ex Mansel racing cars including the Ardun Special and the ex Roycroft P3 Alfa Romeo, Johnny was also a wheeler dealer like Brian. I am not sure if Brian's first motor racing happened when Merv Neil convinced him to take an old Hupmobile of his car yard and make a stockcar out of it for the first Auckland stockcar meeting in March 1955, but it started Brian's involvement in stockcar racing firstly at Western Springs and then the Epsom Showgrounds. During the later fifties Brian became involved in circuit racing as well. Later of course it was Midgets, a time spent in Australia which included speedway promotion, and then supporting son Ted in his speedway career. A few photos of Brian and his early stockcars. And in January 1958 demonstrating the Ardun Special at Epsom at the pre Ardmore NZIGP meeting. RIP, Brian Tracey. #40.

Brian was best man at Des McCollums wedding. They left the wedding to race at Epsom then returned later in the night. Couple of scallywags thats for sure.

On behalf of the Drever Family, we send our thoughts to the Tracey family.
Brian was a asset to New Zealand Speedway and will be missed for his tireless efforts and his passion for not only Ted and his driving, but the whole 80's movement in speedway with Kumeu, CTRA, Waikaraka Park, and then Meremere.
Our Thoughts are with the family and freinds during this time.
