I have just heard the very sad news that famed Midget car builder, car owner, and driver Cliff North passed away today in his 80th year. Cliff was born on July 23rd 1929. RIP. This is Cliff in his famous #72 Midget at the Ekka in Brisbane in 2006. A car that gained NZ Championships for Eddie James, and was also driven by Ron Ross, Trevor Carnell and Murray Burt. Cliff was a huge supporter of historic speedway and a Life Member of the Auckland Vintage Speedway Club.

Cliff North was there so long ago at Western Springs when men were men, no roll cages and racing on cinders so you could slid around the corner. As a child I remember watching you great men in your white overalls leaning out the side of you midgets. R.I.P,Cliff Chris.W

Cliffs passing is indeed very sad news.
Not only were his skills as a master fabricator and restorer of vintage classics legendary, but his knowledge of midget car racing in NZ was encyclopedic.
RIP Cliff, although im sure you will be kept busy in the race shop upstairs.
