was just an analogy about the RSJ. your wall section measurement(vertical or horizontal) gives it the strength in that particular axis(the more height=the less likely it will bend in that direction) as each box section has 2 of those faces and your then using 4 of that section when you laminate 2 together... there is a reason they make RSJ's deeper in buildings when they have further to span;)..thats essentially what your laminating for. to build up that level of material in either a verticle or horizontal plane to resist forces without making your main rails like 200mm wide either side
the whole point of the plate in the tank chassis and the bumper is to spread load so no one point takes all the energy. and if it does take a high point load there is always reinforcing

The exhaust runs through the top chassis rail, should make for a good boom box and add to the V8's appeal. Are you quite sure that you were not having your leg pulled? You can see the inlet port for the exhaust into the rail,, it is under the top rail by the first top hole next to the firewall end and yes they are for the exhausts you are not dreaming as i noticed them the other day when i had a look at it,, why no-one else has done this i have no idea

It has been done before, in the very early days it was done often, I did it in 2001 in a Superstock bottom chassis rail, last I heard the practice has been banned. Saved about 40 kgs with no mufflers. They get really hot and that car used to burn my foot if the race stopped for to long, might be ok in the top rail tho.

And the headers then have to come out through one of those lightening holes to come up to that inlet you mentioned - why wouldn't you just put the inlet on the inside of the rail??? And the paint will burn - and it will be too hot on the top rail... And why does it still have the quarter round mounts off the front pillar that the exhaust covers usually mount to on Tanks? Still sounds like a leg pull! And its still ugly...

Where the exhaust normally goes is for body mounting,Mind you ole peewee may run other things in that area or is it gunna be left open under the body to keep the top rail cool for the exhausts

True - and you can see on the picture of the left side that it does actually go up to the top rail on that side - must be a separate pipe on the right hand side though. OK - you're right, I'm wrong - it does go through the top rail! ....its still ugly though....

Its got a ford y too, so that should keep you psyched too
