QSRA Season preview By Dwayne Neilson
The countdown to the start of the 2009 season of open wheel midget car action in Queensland continues set to officially kick off 10th October at Brisbane’s Archerfield International Speedway
In just over a week Queensland’s best Midget car drivers will attack the Archerfield track in the opening race .The Ray Revell Memorial Race.
Current Queensland Champion Mark George will return for shows in the trusty Breka /Porsche title winning car #16 backed by T & P Electrics and Inkjet Toners on board .The boys looking to test and tune and run some big shows in the car which has proven reliability and speed making them one to watch.
The three time club championship winning team of John Harders running a brand new Enforcer/Hawk #5 with also a three time champion Adam Wallis from the AMCA class at the wheel will launch an assault on the club rounds, National title and also the Speedcar Super Series this season with the departure of Kiwi Stevie Walsh the team will look to rebond with new driver Adam and move forward .The car will display the signage of Kiwi Work Force and also Brisbane Haulage.
The #8 Stealth/Brayton of Stan Burrow will again be piloted by the hard charging Shaun Burrows with Crankshaft Engineering and Stan Burrow Automotive displayed the team will be hoping to iron out some minor engine concerns last year and turn some fast laps again.
The green machine of Colin Davies will see young Mitchell Whittaker back steering the #51 Stealth/Esslinger running support from ITG filters and Eurofabrications assisting along the way. With this being Mitch’s second season in the high powered Esslinger car and showing positive signs toward the end of last season I’m sure the results will come for the Team.
Team Sloane will debut another brand new midget this season in the form of a Breka/Mopar #55.Brad is looking forward to running the very latest chassis from Kiwi Tim Clark @ BSL very much a family race team with support and funding from Narelle and Jamie Sloane here is another rising star to watch.
Another brand new car from BSL and Tim Clark will see crowd Favourite Brendan Palmer in behind the handle bars of the Breka/Ed Pink #41 back on board with the flying Palmer Team are Super Geek and Ripper Lube Truck Repairs. The Team will contest the National title, bigger club shows and also all rounds of the SSS one of the 5 odd Queensland Drivers representing the QSRA.
Wild Purple Web Media and Super Butcher will run this year on the Spike/Gaerte #24 of two time State Champion Johnny Davidson .Running all the club shows and local SSS rounds the boys will also partake in the Aust Title and the bigger lap races both in Sydney and Brisbane toward the end of the season.
Last seasons Super Series runner up Brock Dean #99 will also debut a brand new Aggressor/Hawk having some great results last season also mixed with some extreme mechanical bad luck at the worst timing will see Team Dean back with vengeance and looking to turn fast consistent laps running Pro Lube Lubricants and DTR Mechanical stickers.
Speaking of consistent,” Mr Consistent” Grant Draney will also wheel out a brand new Spike/Hawk #7.Joining forces with Jason Gray dropping Grants Steve Smith Hawk into the rails of the SP Tools Spike owned by Jason & Michelle Gray will see them also contest the SSS and most other major shows throughout Australia under the “Lucky 7 Banner”. Also backed by Tools 4U and Steve Smith Performance Hawks.
Runaway Bay Hobbies makes its debut at speedway this season with Doug Cavell and the JacFab/Gaerte #9 Crew. Doug having run Sprint cars and Midgets over the years finding some real pace in the car last year and now with the grit between his teeth will be looking for some fantastic results. Automotive Solutions will also be on board with the team.

#75 Rob McKay running the very tidy Beast/Gaerte returns with support from Lubrimax “It’s the blue one” and Mobile Auto Hoses hoping to runs most shows and have some great results along the way.
Kenny Stanaway will return in the John Lennon Spike/Esslinger #81. Both being very busy at work they will start the season a little late but will be very fast and very strong straight off the blocks. With support from Lennon Engineering and KMS Driving school.
The former Lewis House car from the USA owned by Jeff Barton will this year see Australian Formula 500 Champ Brock Hallet steering the Spike/Brayton #91.With Clayton Walker having time off from racing the car will carry the names of long time sponsoring Just Jap dismantlers and new comers Blaze Master Fire Protection.
On the subject of Clayton Walker his cousin Robert Steward will campaign the second Barton car, Robert having compact racing experience will saddle up in the Ellis/Brayton #36 also backed by Blaze Master Fire Protection and L.W Furniture.
The former Titan Garages #36 car of Toni Kruck will make its presence felt within the field this time at the hands of Sid Whittaker. Sid having purchased the Stealth/Mopar #58 to contest shows this season having run a hand full in one of the spare Doug Cavell cars last season. Showing very fast pace in last years outings North coast Profilers and Hussy Performance will not be disappointed backing Mr Whittaker this term.
The Dark side called and the Michael Harders team answered in the way of a full blown air brushed tribute to star wars with the Stealth/Hawk #14.Locked and loaded into the schedule for the SSS the troopers will travel to most if not all major race meetings, With long serving Fuchs Oil and Ferris 60 on the ship along with backing and support from IGA Food store Acacia Ridge and Barry Graham Race Engines Obe1 wishes them well in their journey and a safe return to the mother ship.
Young Matt Greenwood will be looking for more laps this year running the Pacific Rim Trading ACT Brake service Spike/Gaerte #98 with Harrington Doyle along for the ride the guys will be searching for some strong race laps and the odd top 3 placing to boot. Having a wild ride last year the monkey is off the back and the gas pedal is down. Look for Matt in the results.
Neale Tobin is also looking for some good placings this season returning in the ex Dave Darland Chilli Bowl Stealth/Gearte #76. Changing the number and colour Neale will now look to string together some laps after minor engine problems kept him from some deserved results last year. Having contested almost the entire SSS last season Neale will run local shows and Local SSS rounds this time around. Carrying United oils and Brisbane Haulage on the side of the car.
Modified Production Driver Troy Ware will be the man behind the wheel in the ex Sid Whittaker driven Razor/Buick #71.Having obtained the car and looking forward to running some laps in a fast tidy midget Troy is along for the ride with Carbitz and Buderuim Glass and Screens. Sticking to the clubs shows Troy will gain some experience and look to the future in midgets and will certainly be one to watch.
Auto Graphics signs and stripes joins Brett Foreman and his Stealth/Porsche #13 for the 2009/2010 season having run the Gambler chassis Brett has stepped into a newer car so with the unleashed talent Brett has this could also be another name seen in results more so this year than previous.
Compact Great Darren Vine running the Stealth/Nissan #19 will hit the track this season in immaculately prepared car running a turbo Nissan 220 engine. Darren is still intending to run the compact and will know his way around tracks very well adjusting to the power difference shouldn’t be a concern keep your eyes peeled on the Mike Vine Turbos car of Darren Vine
Another compact driver switching to the Midget ranks this season sees Lucas “Action” Jackson wheeling out the brand new Razor/Gaerte #27.Shane Coopers Maxim Tool Boxes signage on board with the team along side BHR Fabrications they will be fast from start to finish and looking for some good results running the local shows this year maybe moving onto the national scene next time around.
2x time club champion Jeremy Hassell makes a return to the division this year in the hot seat at Terry Holland racing running the Stealth/ED Pink #6.Having last season off Jeremy will be looking forward to getting back into the seat and the winning ways that won him the club championship twice. Backing for the team comes in the form of Polar Ice.
The other Polar Ice car Driven by WA’S Dene McAllen owned by QLD’s Jack Berry being the Spike/Hawk #29 will also be contesting the SSS and major shows. Long time QSRA Member and supporter Jack will be back for another attack at some titles in last years Best Presented car .The Spike is always immaculate and well presented and deserves great results to match.
Anthony Chaffey is a name not so well known to the midget ranks but after watching the Stealth/ED Pink #25 run some laps at the recent practice he will be one to listen out for also turning some good fast times in the ex Richard Mules driven Stealth. With Auto Zone Toowoomba and Environmental Drilling on board the boys will be looking for a great fun season to get their Midget career underway.
Hillbilly Racings Bill Foreman running the Foreman/Prosche #21 will be seen on the dirt later in the season with getting the cars #13 and #10 ready the #21 will be a bit later in the show. Backed by FBF Kitchens and insulations the car always runs well and should net some good points this year.
New comer to driving but not so crewing is Vaughan Bryce former Hillbilly spanner spinner will suit up and steer the Gambler/Porsche formerly driven by Brett. Alan Bryce Sheet Metal and Ron Gooleys Mechanical will back the team this season.
The former Harley Bishop Chassis will return this year at the hands of now owner /driver John McLaughlin. John running the Aggressor/Fontana #47 displaying Race and General Engineering along side Gold Coast Suzuki John loves running the Fontana and having some fun hopefully bagging some podiums along the way. Looking to run the club shows at this stage.
Scott Jeynes midget car campaign starts in the Stealth/Fontana #88 car when he hits the track this season having purchased the car with some history being owned by Johnny Davidson Craig Smith and the later being Toni Kruck the chassis saw time in America running at the hands of Toni before being shipped back to oz and will now see some good laps pieced together with Scott steering. Support for this season comes from Carline Burleigh and Probolt.
Another former Craig Smith car now owned and driven by Rod Singleton being the Stealth/Mopar #96 has run a practice and showed very good pace to race.
