Okay, so who won the free tickets to Palmy??? I just love playing Santa ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D A big thanks must firstly go out to TV3 and 60 Minutes for seeing something in our sport worthy of prime-time, free-to-air viewing. They'll do a fantastic job of the coverage.....and I just wish I was going to the Gold Coast for that leg of the filming It takes a lot of people to make something like this happen, and without Speedway New Zealand, Bruce Robertson and the team from Palmy, Gary Parkes, and of course the Palmerston North Panthers themselves for opening up their work places and their private lives, none of this could happen. Also for Ian Rawkins and Telesport for making available actual race footage, not just next year's but archive stuff as well if required. For those that missed the show, it should appear on the Palmerston North website sometime in the near future.

Thanks for the link, that was absolutely awesome, I was glued to that the whole time. Fantastic news about TV3's 60 Minutes doing the show on the Teams Champs, bringing it to mainstream media will do wonders for the profile of the event, all involved need to be congratulated in advance. Listening to Scott gave a little insight into the mindset and thinking involved in competing in a teams race. Well done BSport.

Scott Miers is so laid back I'm picking the cameras might pick up Gary Parkes having to wake him before racing. The introductory filming, beginning within the next few days, will be interesting, as it will feature the guys away from the race track and in most cases, even away from their cars. It will also be interesting to watch an outsider's view of our sport.......

It will also be interesting to watch an outsider's view of our sport....... Be careful what you wish for.... What we get is what we get to some extent Tony; we can all be guilty of blinkered vision and feeling rather insulated that our chosen past-time is so perfect at times, that an outside perspective should perhaps be welcomed? I hear what you're saying however, and all we can do as a sport is ensure any questions they may have are answered before it goes to air. If we cannot stand up to outside scrutiny, are we really as good as what we think we are? Your not the first person to say this, but TV3 appear to be approaching it in a positive light and I'm confident they'll do a good job with the final product. It won't be to everybody's tastes, as many fans will complain there's not enough race-footage in it, but you'll never get a program full of race-footage on a high-rating show in prime-time on free-to-air television. I've been warned about something that happened with a Karting New Zealand program that was being made, so yes, we do need to be a little careful, but I'd like to think the positives will outweigh any negatives. You certainly can't expect a show such as 60 Minutes to be making a Speedway New Zealand promotional piece, but if we feel the need to hide our sport in the closet, isn't that an acceptance there is something wrong with it?

All good points and thoughts BB, no argument from me.
What happens with these sorts of things is that inevitably the picture painted by the "outsiders" is different to the (perhaps cosy and maybe blinkered) picture we insiders have. Its just the way things are, and we cant change that. Like you, I will look forward to the programme to see just how the sport is perceived by "outsiders".
And, BTW, good to see (hear) you carrying on the BSport speedway news which I started last season - I was afraid the show was getting hi-jacked to some extent by SNZ (with the best of intentions no doubt) but with you in there each week it retains some of its journalistic independance.

excuse my ignorance but is the speedway hour on b sport a regular weekly thing Barry i listened to the show and was very impressed it came across very well and look forward to next week if it is a regular thing It's actually a general motor-sport hour, which speedway occasionally hi-jacks for the entire hour. Over winter we grab 15-20 minutes every 2 weeks, but during the summer months speedway is part of the show every week. As I said, mostly for about 15-20 minutes - and we generally put on a driver that's competing in a big event somewhere around the country that weekend - and maybe scrounge the entire hour about once a month if we're lucky. Just keep an eye on the trusty MACGOR's Notice Board as to who is going to be on, and when.
