Great to see that the Elf Super Seven Solo Series will race twice at Kihikihi, both times at the NZ Super Stock Champs (Jan 30th and 31st).
There is to be an official SNZ sanctioned test match on the Sunday.
Can anybody recall the last time that a Solo test was officially sanctioned by SNZ? There have been numerous unofficial ones over the last few years but...

What is exactly the history with Solo Bikes and SNZ they were once the backbone, the real Promotional tool for Speedway from New Zealand, and world famous, the demise on that stage since then is quite appalling really.

A succession of SNZ boards whose make up were dominated by persons of the 4 wheel extraction, who either didn't understand or didn't care about the plight of motorcycle speedway has in my view also been a major reason for its decline. That these successive boards sat by and did nothing as 2 of its founding classes lost over 50% of their competitor base is a nothing short of a disgrace
On the positive side the formation of the motorcycle speedway sub committee has a least given the bikes a voice and to its credit the present SNZ Board & its predecessor have listened to & heeded this committees advice in its quest to revitalize bike speedway in NZ .
The current SNZ President & Vice presidents favorable disposition to this committee has been a major factor in the positive strides that this committee has been able to make .
My concern is this may not always be the case.

The demise of motorcycle speedway in this country, can be directly attributed to those on the "sub committee" who, under the auspices of the the NZ Auto Cycle Union, were responsible for the running of both 2 and 4 wheeled speedway in this country.
The year was 1984 and the "sub committee" was officially known as the Speedway Control Board.
When Barry Butterworth took them on and went "Outlaw",the Sh.t winds started blowing.
When those on the "sub committee" saw their domination of speedway in this country being challenged, measures to ensure certain "interests" and "proxies" were safeguarded.
An Organisation was formed carrying the moniker of the "New Zealand Speedway Control Board Incorporated".
When the NZACU Conference of 1984 was over and done with,so was any future motorcycle speedway had in this country.
When those behind the NZSCB Inc launched their attack on the sport it was ruthless, but they did so in the knowledge they would get there prize.
When the dust had settled, the newly formed NZSCB Inc had seized full control of everything that had previously been the domain of the NZACU and,in doing so,they began the process that would see the focus shift to the promotion of 4 wheels at the expense and detriment of the bikes.
The former NZACU is now Motorcycling New Zealand (MNZ),as they are Full FIM Members and inturn FIM Licence holders, they are the only group who can sanction an official FIM solo or sidecar test in NZ.
Its not hard to see that the demise of the bikes coincides with the NZSCB Inc seizing control.
