Is any stockcars interested in coming to the mount to race this season?

cant see people wanting to. it aint a stockcar track for a startm you cant do big hits on anyone, the track conditions are always crap, its bloody expensive to get in, & youd get a better atmosphere & feel more welcome at a chocolate fish party.......

This is one class that has dropped off hugely in the last 2-3 years. Regular 30 - 40 cars now sees 12 -16, even when BP put on a 3 race series, cos the stockcars thort they were the poor cousins to the non contact classes.

Something is not well with this class. For local numbers to drop substancially, visitors to be very minimal, drivers told to hit or not be on the programme etc etc.

Where do drivers (local or outsiders) see the problem to be. Can't be all about injury or damaged cars, can it?

Would like to hear from stockies first, before the all classes at BP have reduced in numbers, except mini stocks, Why is that? thread starts. Where to from here?

Is it as simple as h8flagracers suggets. T o big and wide for stockies?

you don't need any more than 8 to put on a good show for the paying people or maybe those poussys should drive salloons ;D and yes i have done that too.not the girl thingy thing , but drove a stockcar. its better than sex to some people or why would Grandad drive a saloon ?

Not sure about 12 stocks making the grade.

Sounds like it used to be in the super stock days. If it wasn't for Rodney and Kerry super stocks would have died alot earlier.

Stocks are now where supers were quite a few years ago.

track is way to fast for thos supers at BP dude . but you can't beat the sound of 20 odd at Rotorvagas to curl your hair on the back of your anywere ;D

To me it sounds like you just have guys that want to go out and just race which for stockcars isnt cool but until there is some keen guys that want to stir it up it will stay like that.Maybe you need some HB boys to come up and show yous how its done or come to meeanee to learn. ;D

I don't think you'll ever get HB type action at Baypark, but big car numbers generate their own kind of fun. Anything less than 26 around that track and it's unlikely to happen though.

NZ Champs there ran a 36 car final, 3 rows of 12 on the grid, and the track still looked like it had less cars on it than most tracks with a 20 car field due to its width.

But if any club/promotion anywhere doesn't actively support a class, it is unlikely to flourish.

Its not that simple unfortunately Regan, the track is just really really crap for Stockcars. Most people will agree Alan Dunn was the best stirrer theyve had for a while there, and even he only managed a couple of hits or spins a race and alot of misses. Most people race mid track to pole line which in itself is about the width of HB so even if you do pick someone up to take them to the wall.. when you do eventually hit the wall, there is hardly any momentum left, and the wall is straight up and down and tall so even when you do get someone in there, there is little chance of them popping up the wall.. ive never seen it tho i think i have seen a pic of it once. I have seen a few wind offs, but because of the wall and the speed, most times have been ambulance inducing. The track is massive, so if you choose to lie in wait, you have to wait ages. The plus side of this is, you have to be so precise to pull off any hits there, it must help with hitting skill at other tracks.

The big tire cars normally rip massive holes in the badly prepared track, so by the end of the night, probably half the cars are out due to damage.. mostly from the track.. Ive probably seen more popped tires in 20 or so meetings at BP, than in 20 or so years of following speedway. With only 4 classes, the turn around is very fast, so a small issue does put out alot of stockcars. My car was a flat chassis, and we couldnt raise the car enough and be within the rules, so by race 2 or 3, i was the grader haha. If you cruise around the Mount, you see alot of Rotorua cars actually live there and choose to wear an R, so id say that most of the missing drivers have changed tracks. Part of that may be due to not being happy with the track and promoter, but also only a small group of about 6 cars would bother travelling to big meetings, so the support wasnt what it should be. Look what happened the very year the McRobbies changed tracks, and now with travellers like the Gallops leaving, they unfortunately cant even front a team. It is frustrating, because with talent like Frederickson, Hunt and the SWAP team, they certainly have quality drivers.. but it just doesnt seem to work.

In saying all that, the Harry Frederickson memorial was apparently excellent and well attended, so despite the track not being ahem.. stockcar paradise.. it can still lend itself to good racing.

I might be looking at a trip over to the mount later this season for a skid but after just buying a house the funds are quite tight so hopefully make it there for 1 of your guys 2 last meetings

Gee Les 22 . You have opened up a can of worms here . Mind you a couple of the stockcar experts that are making comment , have raced at Baypark in the past . But i cant recall them turning on any action to warrant sitting on the edge of your seat . lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
As long as the people who are contracted to BP , are happy to race there is all that really matters .
People have to understand , that the money is not around these days , hence the drop in race competitors ..
Low car numbers equals less action..
The Mount stockys do know how to turn it on , ask the visiting drivers who attended the Harry Fredrickson Memorial .

Would be good to see visiting cars at baypark as numbers are what makes good stockcar racing there. I know how hard it can be to keep a car up and running and then have to pay to travel on top of that you really need a good incentive to go and race at another track.
If its any consulation i will be back next season, finally got the finances sorted out to buy and maintain a car for a few seasons. ( taken about three years )

Stockcars are exploding everywhere else. Numbers are growing at pretty much all other tracks. No disrespect to Gizzy, but they have more numbers at the track than the Mount.

If the track is not suited to stockcars and numbers comtinue to drop away then BP will be looking for a replacement class in the next few seasons.

I'm not sure if this would be permitted, but the use of drums to create a new pole line that vastly reduces the width of the track would;
a - create more contact
b - reduce the need to water the lower part of the race track (save $)
c - it may reduce damage to the track, mostly the lower part.
On the down side there is the hastle of putting them out just for the stockcars, & the PC fairies may not like it either?
The biggest thing right now though, is to work in with other tracks.
Another thing to concider, Tauranga has probably been hit the hardest in this country by the global recesion, & the stockcar class there is likely a victim of this so it might well in the hands of the gods. Good luck.

Willy Kay and drums are not a match, and time would be the biggest obstacle they are stretched as it is with time unfortunately it seems Stockcars are headed where the Superstocks went a few years ago

Stockcar racing at the mount could be far better
12 cars turn up for a club night,instead of sending them out to run round n round with as much action as (QUOTE) a choclate fish party ;D Why not have a 6 on 6 teams race mini comp,best of three.
Or even just enforce the hit to pass rule??
The teams wouldnt have to kill each other with komakze style hits,just block,spin,run cars along the wall.(the crowd love the sparks)And you never know the drivers might actually enjoy themselves God forbid aye willy

As a member of the public I went to the NZ saloon car champs.Well my suggestion is short of closing the place down or getting a new promoter someone need a bomb under them. I think the classes need to expand perhaps just ask Greg Pickeral what the problem is. Too dear for admission and the show just wasnt up to parr excuse the pun Steve Williams. Not sure why Superstocks arnt there and perhaps Midgets might be a welcomed addition sometime..
