Ive been looking for somthing like this for ages, Its so tough getting access to tracks these days for testing or letting crews and sponcers have a go so I though I might share this with everyone
We took six saloon cars over to the Patetonga Speedway this last Sunday for a development day. Patetonga is on SH27 north of Matamata. The drivers were a mix of first year saloon car owners, crew members and seasoned mid-pack runners but everyone gained something from the experience
The track is a mid size oval (think Kihikihi) in length but very wide and banked. The corners are the fastest of any dirt track I have ever driven on and this is backed up by regular low 16 second lap times and left fronts lifting off. The track surface is a red clay that is still a bit new but held up well to our saloon cars, The track suits normal saloon car gearing of 6.5:1.
The track is on Farm land owned by Dayne Plummer the Plummer Family have successfully run a motocross venue for many years and have decided to diversify into speedway. The track was designed and built with the help of many and input from Barry Hall, Barry has years of experience with building speedway tracks including many seasons of constructing and racing on Ice speedways up in Canada, Ice speedways have to be reconstructed every winter and when you drive on this track you can appreciate the years of experience that has gone into the design and building of it. This track is very much a labour of love for both the Plummer family and Barry Hall they charge a very reasonable rate for track hire, Barry came with us to the track and spent the day with us and Dayne was on hand to water the track throughout the day. At this stage the track is intended to be used for private hire for training or picnic days for groups of up to about 12 cars, If you are interested in organising a track day call Sam she will be only to pleased to assist 021 136 7133 or 07 887 8871
Happy to answer any questions
Cheers Brendon 26A
