After watching Jason Scott race at Cromwell at new year, home track he will be hard too beat my picks ARE 1NZ 88T 2NZ 19C 3NZ 15I what do you think? ? South island cars 1,2,3 (hopefully) I think Jason Scott will be fast (real fast) for 2 laps. then he will get puffed. I was speaking to him a couple days ago and he said hes a bit on the chubby side at the moment but is really looking forward to the racing and signing autographs for the kids. jmac 1nz , brindle 2nz, forsey 3nz

Don't rule out Danny Mayson 97c. came very close to Jmacs lap record before Christmas (1/100 of a second). That is pending his entry...

The Contenders
Americans Jonathan Allard Very quick and good through traffic. Showed against WoO regulars Saldana and Dollansky and 3 times WoO Champion Sammy Swindell that he ranks amongst the top group of visiting sprintcar drivers to come to NZ. Would not be out of place on the WoO tour. Ricky Logan Holds the lap record at Western Springs (11.7 seconds). Current 2nz has to be amongst the favourites in his 4th attempt at the title. Western Springs Dean Brindle Current champion and has been one of the fastest kiwis on track for the last 4-5 years. Been a bit quiet so far this season but then he won last year after a month off waiting on an engine rebuild. Will be a top contender. Allan Wakeling Been NZ Champ 8 times and won dozens of other titles along the way. In his 3rd decade of Sprintcar racing he has not lost any of his speed but has picked up countless laps of experience. One of the few contenders with track time at Cromwell. Jamie MacDonald Past 1nz also one with some track time at Cromwell. When he gets it right he is super quick, when he gets it wrong he is super spectacular. Carl Wilson Another past 1nz who has to rank as the unluckiest Sprintcar driver in NZ. If there is bad luck waiting to hit someone it usually lands right on “Ollie”. A very professional hard working team expect Ollie to be in the reckoning. Ryan O’Conner Past TQ 1nz this kid is living the dream. Driving for the Salter Motorsports Team Ryan has had the best equipment and the best tutors and mentors including current and past WoO stars. He is starting to show that he is taking it all in with consistent top 3 feature results. He will have a bright future. Daniel Eggleton Getting faster each meeting. Will be star of the fututre.
Baypark Rodney Wood Fast and consistent. Really fights hard for every position. Well deserved 3rd in NZGP. Colin Entwistle Very good 1 lap qualifier. Been in top 3 twice this year already. This will not help with the format being used. Does sometimes fade as night goes on but does have a lot of experience. Skinny Colson Skinny will love the wide open aspect of Cromwell. Last year due to problems early in the night he had to race the B Main and started rear of the A Main, Skinny ended up passing the most cars during last years championship. Should be good to watch again. Palmerston North Nelson Hartley The “other” Hartley boy surprised some finishing 4th last year at his home track. If others have problems (as usually happens) he may be up there again. South Island Jamie Duff Very fast around Cromwell. Does have trouble with traffic which will not suit him with the multi heat format.

I think if you take Allard out of the equation then it will be a hard fought title. I think the south island boys will hold there own. Corey price has been so faast this year he is my pick. I think his quick trip to the USA to do a driving school will help him heaps. And the new motor he bought back with him will put him at the front.

Hard not to see the professional US pilots, Allard and Logan, as prime podium material given their big advantage of much more competative sprinter racing in the US than our locals boys. I love to watch the Yanks race with all their skill and experience, but when its comes to 1NZ champs they can go and get stuffed! Hopefully they hit the wall, or their engines blow up! It was good to see Rob Garrett give Ricky Logan a nice little bump at PN last Sunday. Nice one Rob, good win too. Hopefully the other kiwis competitors use similar tactics if necessary ~ burp!

would like to see a South Islander make top 3 but can't see that happening within the next few years.

Yeah, that's the attitude! The yanks are the ones that make the kiwi drivers improve. Yank for 1NZ!

I agree with Hank. I think the south island will hold its own. Ruapuna this weekend will pretty much show where everybody will be. Maybe the famous Hank could come down and show everybody how to get round Cromwell fast i am sure he has done some pretty fast times down there in the past.

Im pretty sure he does race on the woO tour doesn't he? Jon races out of California and only runs against the Outlaws at sanctioned shows on the West Coast like the Gold Cup,in which he finished 4th in the Gold Cup A Main,or at an event like the Knoxville Nationals where he made the Nationals A Main and finished 15th. What Magilla is saying,is that Jon has the game to run with the Outlaws fulltime.....unfortunately,the costs of running fulltime means unless a paid ride materialises,it wont be happening anytime soon.....which is an indictment on the Series, not Jons ability as a driver.

After talking to Corey Price tonight my money is on him. He has bought in 3 Chinese set up gurus from XXX factoty and they have given him the hot setup. He will be unstopable now with his Sills,Sitton,Kruseman driving experience. Good luck Corey. You are number one.
