I don't know whether to run a Ford Y or maybe a Starlet/Corolla body like the Nelson cars used to have. Thought about a Mac but because the cage will be quite high to accomadate my height it would probably look a bit ugly.

Wow, making progress I see. So It will definately be ready for the new season then.
Getting the seat adjusted on your old baby today. Hope to run her in Whangarei this weekend to see how she goes.
Ganna put a new muffler on her too... she sounds a little like a tractor at the mo hehe.
Keep onto your new project. Lookin foward to racing against you in the near future

This is really great to see. It would be good if other out there building / modifying cars would put up similar posts about their progress. Will help keep the interest up over the off season. Get stuck into it.

Well done - be awesome to see another car out there with a different body that will be easily identifiable amongst the wallpaper ford ys . And great work with the car - will be a heap of fun getting a brand new beast up and running in the offseason - all the best, and hopefully a few more picks as you make progress? Thanks for the pics

HOW TALL ARE YOU. DO YOU FIND AN OFF SET IS BETTER FOR THE TALLER GUY. IF YOU WAS BUYING A CAR WHAT WOULD YOU LOOK AT WHITH REGARDS TO FITTING IN THE CAR, OR CAN YOU MODIFY PRETTY MUCH ANY CAR. I ONLY ASK THIS AS I AM 6'5'' AND IT WOULD BE A USEFUL PIECE OF INFO

I ONLY ASK THIS AS I AM 6'5'' AND IT WOULD BE A USEFUL PIECE OF INFO CHEERS I'm about 6'3". The last car I had was a centre mount and this one will be the same. I find the offset cars get a bit to cramped in the leg area! When I brought the last car I looked for leg room. Then you just have to change the cage. Its not that big a job. Build the cage with the max layback on the rear hoop and then put the cross back as far as possible so you can get the seat that little bit further back. You can modify any car it just depends how much modifying you want to do!

Update: Spent three hours welding up the rear bumper on Tuesday night. Theres about 7.5 metres of welding on that puppy. No wonder I went through so many welding rods! Dad came up on Wednesday to give me a hand and we got another 9 odd hours in. We now have two fully welded bumpers attached to the car. (I can call it a car now as she is starting to resemble a Stockcar!) ;D ;D

Looks awesome Are you able to offer us any insights as to why you have gone with two piece chassis rails?

This is a really good thread or people to see what goes into building a chassis from scratch.
Many people would prefer to keep a chassis build to themselves so you must be congratulated Jarrod for being so up font with it.
Keep the updates coming

Looks awesome Are you able to offer us any insights as to why you have gone with two piece chassis rails? Although slightly heavier than one piece of box, a two piece (laminated) chassis rail is considerably stronger than a one piece rail. Hopefully by using a laminated chassis rail it will limit the chance of it bending. Of all the parts in a chassis, the chassis rail is the one you don't want bending as everything is attached to it and it becomes a mission to replace.
