Well after an operation on my right ankle i find myself at home with time on my hands to finally start a drivers board something we talked about last season but never quite happened . OAS race team is a small team of 3 drivers, Hadleigh Smith stockcar 687gm, Shane Olsen currently car less after selling his mini stock last year but always helping out and getting the occasional drive , and me Tony Oliver and I race the 38gm stockcar With the season now behind us the plan is to do some off season updates on whats happening in the OAS workshop (after hours of course jonny ) and for the other guys to give their opinions also. Must also mention the team manager John who is not only my boss and huge helper with the cars but also mad about stockcars. Oh and he is my father hence family dinners quite often end up deep stockcar conversation and planning much to the usual sighs and raised eye brows of the remaining family. haha Anyway with the king of the coast now done and dusted for another year the plan for my car is for the usual new bumpers and siderails and a full strip down once i have this giant boot off my leg. As for the other boys...........? Till next time Olly.

Ahhh, good to see you have got the fingers to the keyboard hop along. There was some reluctance to do a drivers board, given the smack talk, and likely retribution on the track. But given my big keyboard (mouth) and two wall rides in two meetings I figure what the hey - I better start talking smack proper since i get the wall rides anyway hahahaha I'm just a hanger oner to the OAS team - we did plan to have matching paint jobs for the team (or matching designs at least) but that went out the window after a decent sort of a roll at the South Island Stockcars on Qualifying night. heres the only picture of the car I have (the last stickcers and wing were put on before this meeting, then was wrecked in first race ;D ) I purchased the photo from George Gibbs - there are heaps of cool shots from this meeting here www.georgegibbs.co.nz/speedway/2009-2010%20Season/7.%20Sth%20Island%20Stocks-Nelson.18-19.Dec.09/index.htmlheres a link to my history, and shots of my cool 1st car part 1 - A big thanks to macgor for posting a bunch of my drival from the early days, and the subsequent updates. macgors.orgfree.com/HS17Aug07/HS17Aug07.htmlpart 2 macgors.orgfree.com/HS30Sept07/HS30Sept07.htmland a breif look at my first race experiance macgors.orgfree.com/HS18Nov07/HS18Nov07.htmlMy last car outside OAS Headquarters before being sold (and restored to better than it ever was) by a top Bloke, Terry McBride, whose taken 38c to another level this year in chch and the only team shot we ever got, since the OAS motto is "Arrive in 5" .... minutes to go. I had to go around to Ollys to get this photo - I think he was having a hot roast lunch or something, and was pretty unconcerned the meeting started in 45 minutes Thats my history - just need Shaneo to post up a storm, and since Olly is out of action, maybe big tony should post some pictures from the earlier stockcars, and superstock days?

Thought i better blow everyones cover before signing out Shaneo - getting fizzed about the big pistons in the Holden, and not a 1200 Datsun motor for a change. And no Shane, your old ministock does not rev to 12,000rpm. Has now seen the light, sold the ministock and had a few guest drives in stockcars, were disappointingly he does very well, as he keeps reminding us. Big John and Jolly Olly - legends. Thats the back of the workshop if you can see past Olly's head. Its pretty big (the head not the workshop). The welding mask fits over my shoulders after he has adjusted it to a snug fit on his melon. Big John is the one who has encouraged me at various times (don;t worry about power steering, we didn;t have that in my day - Easter at the Glen - don;t worry about the brakes we didn;t have them in my day - Nelson, south island stockcars - don't worry about the clutch, we didn;t need them in my day - King of the coast 2010) Thanks mate. Old school probably sums him up, though safety in the workshop is paramount - during the weeks working hours. And a couple of other randoms that show up - this guy got scared of the hitting in stockcars so bought Hayden Pattons last rally car and would rather dodge trees at 160km/h. Also wired my stockcar up, and sponsored a couple of paint jobs on the racecar. Not the last one, that was a black Doug radiator black special, as seen at the top of the page. And this guy sold his stockcar and won crew man of the year last year for working on a few different cars around the place to get them out there, and might just be the new rep for the season. Regularly stops in for a morning smoko coffee when its getting close to race weekend Theres a few other regulars who will be snapped in due course (Black Doug, The doctor, Mr chow, smacker, kev the rev, dirty ie the whole greyouth stockcar club etc) just so we can give them grief. Then back to the off season rebuilds of course.

Hey guys, first a big thanks to kevin hayman for the drive in his machine. It was an awsome day and well worth the wait ;D besides the car not quite performing 100% it was flat at top end going into the corners. had been talking to a few people thinking it was a valve spring problem in the end it was the dizzy cap had been knocked around and the rotor button tore through the side of the cap. after putting a new cap and button and checking timing, finding it was only running at 5degrees before tdc, for an AU race motor that was set up to run about 20 before tdc. The sound of the motor was a big difference sounding even crisper than what it did. So far the plan is for me is racing at queens birthday in the 4gm car Another stockcar i spend my free time on fixing it Its all worth it Cheers shaneo

Heres some footage from the King of the Coast this year.
Unforutnatly its only of half a qualifying race, featuring Tony Oliver rin 38gm, and Shane Olsen in a guest drive in 41gm.
I do like his outside pass around 4 cars at the start of the race, not sure i'd be so keen on that - but it work, and he made some strong moves.
