If not the old guys, what about the off spring BL?

You bet it is. It wouldn't be that hard to organise either, half the 'said' guys probably own one already. What a crowd pull that would be. Curtainraiser to 'Tournament of Destruction'? BL

Nope, I have enough trouble finding my way around in a sprintcar let alone one of those mobility scooter thingees. They look dangerous! Leave it to the experts.

Looks like an offspring challenge going on here. I doubt Waikaraka would be interested, but it is certainly coming near to the time that the Historic Stockcar Club organised another reunion, and it is something a few of us have been talking about recently. We have our AGM this weekend, so maybe we can start looking at some dates and make it happen, possibly at the end of the 2010/11 season. I think bench racing is enough, I would hate to think what some of these oldies would get up to on mobility scooters. ;D

Whats the number 22 car all about sponsored by Kawerau Carriers Ltd?

I know my grandfather had a trucking business in Kawerau called that but I would have to check with Dad. I don't remember him having the number 22.

On one of your earlier posts you included an attachment. Within that are various photos one of which shows Laurie standing beside a car with Kawerau Carriers Ltd as one of the sponsors. The number is partly obscured by Laurie but looks like 22.
It is not a car that I have seen before and looks to be very early on in the stockcar years. The number may have been changed to accommodate a championship meeting but it is difficult to ascertain due to the grianiness of the picture.
Maybe you can post some of the pics separately??

Here it is. Surely it would be a Rotorua car, pre 1968. Very early Paradise Valley or Rugby Park. Surprised you haven't got a photo of it YC10H.

Not Paradise Valley Raceway the first season was 1970/71 and Laurie was in the number 28A then.
Therefore must be Rugby Park but the only listing in the programmes that I have for car 22 is under the name of Laurie Whitehead who was from Taupo.
The Kawerau Carriers signage prompted my curiosity to a possible connection to Rugby Park.
Photos and info on Rugby Park are very scarce.

He certainly drove in Rotorua before coming up to Auckland, maybe Lawrie has some Rugby Park stuff in his albums that lauretta can get scanned and put on here. I can't get a clear image of the roof fin, but the door number is 22.

Pall Mall - just read the article thats on the same attachment as the pics and it says that Laurie started racing in Rotorua in 1967 and was the top points scorer for that season. Another great Rotorua stockcar driver !!!!!!

The programmes I have are 1966/67 season. Looks like Tony Baker 4R was top points scorer for that year.
