Ron Jemmett, who was one of the Christchurch Speedway Associations Life Members, passed away on Tuesday after a short illness. Ron began his Speedway career at the Aranui track in 1955 riding Solos, before moving into the Speedcars (Midgets) in 1958. Ron was one of the people instrumental in building Templeton Speedway (now known as Ruapuna) and after racing in the Stockcar Scrambles he moved on to TQs and Midgets at that track before taking on the V8 Sprintcars in the early 80's. Ron was the Track Maintenance man at Templeton for many years, and was one of the first people to be inducted into the Canterbury Speedway hall of fame in recognition of his devotion to Speedway. He will be sorely missed.

Such a sad time - the Ruapuna family has been hit very hard lately with many losses.
To most some of these people will be just names, to others best mates. The one thing they all had in common was their passion for Templeton (Ruapuna) Speedway, and that is something that we should not forget......without their input, we would not have Ruapuna as we know it.
Condolences to the families, friends, and of course the C.S.A. for all these recent losses.
