I saw the clip regarding the message Alan Lewis was passing on Campbell live tonight, very sad news. For those that didn’t see it, Alan has advanced Skin Cancer. Not sure if Alan goes onto this site these days, but if he does & gets to read this then I would pass on to him that I believe him to be a fine competitor, & someone that with more laps under his belt very capable of being the guy to beat. We’ve barely had an introductory conversation, but in that time he struck me as being a fellow worshiper of speed, & a good guy. I guess his illness is fairly common knowledge up north, but for me it was quite a shock. I see that he is surrounded by good people, which he is very fortunate to have. I would say to him that miracles do happen, so don’t give up. My thoughts are with you, & hopefully you can take some comfort in reading this. Thankyou, Brendan Lucas

I want to thank Alan for his permitting the cameras (Me the public) into his home at an awful time. I dont know you or have any pearls of wisdom or advice.
I do want to say that thanks to you, Im off to the doctors as soon as I can next week and getting my body checked re any moles. I havent been for years and probably wont be for many more, but next week I will now be going. If that picks anything up for me or any others that may do the same, then hopefully I/we can get treatment before it's too late. In that, I hope you understand how grateful I am if only for helping me to feel it's ok to get a simple check-up.
Regards humbly,
Mike Howe.

Pretty sobering stuff. I went back and found the first story abourt Alan which can be viewed here: www.3news.co.nz/Melanoma-Alan-Lewis-story/tabid/367/articleID/173734/Default.aspxThe deterioration in his condition over just six weeks underlines just how bad an untreated melanoma can be. It's certainly woken me up to go and get a mole map done; all those years spent running around in the sun as a child (when skin cancer was pretty much unheard of) may come at a price further down the track. Cancer doesn't discriminate. It can cut the biggest, toughest guy down to size in months, or even weeks. Alan's dreadful illness should be a wake-up call to all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

nuts same age as me,till next week lol.
I was lucky I guess, was 7 years ago I was diagnosed and am here, lucky yep but another month and I'd been dead, cancer sucks.
He is true re death, when the quack says cancer the idea of dying is real, but you go into positive mode and fight like f.ck to kick it.
And skin cancer is quick to develop and usually malignant quickly.

Ive race against Alan many times on the water, One aggressive and feisty driver, Now hes fighting his toughest race of all(time) It is hard to find the right words in this situation I know, but just wanted to say something all the same. Hes staying with my brother in-law at the moment and I know all the support from his Boat Racing and Speedway families means a lot.

I could not agreed more with this statement,i like many males think we are all ten foot high and bullet prof well we not.I for one are off to get a check up from my doctor on Monday. Also in a time such as this, you find out who your true friends are, and Allen, you have a true friend in Lis Irland

Our thoughts go out to Allan and his family i shed a tear watching the links its not nice for any one to have to go through but its always a little closer when its family or our speedway friends thanks for making us more aware of skin cancer Allan. And if nothing else you will reach all the people in speedway and make them all aware of the dangers. Good luck for next Saturday we will be thinking of you.

Each relay for life is a great way to benefit cancer, and for me is the greatest thing I've got out of having cancer, and most doing the opening walk for survivors agree with me.it is the best part of cancer,be thinking of Alan next year, hoping he organises a fine day,KIA KAHA (shouting it to ya).
