This was posted by superstocknut on another thread:
"Some big names still missing??
58p Bengston 19c Ngatai 7n Boote 52p Scott Joblin 72p Simon Joblin
Just to name a few"
Must more Palmy cars to be coming surely? 90 cars at Rotorua would be fantastic! ;D

Auckland, 1993 think they had 130 cars.
Very memorable meeting as Kevin Free became the first man to win 3 titles.
Defending champion Barry Podjursky 69s was rolled on opening night - it was hard to win back to backs in those days for sure!
I think this was my first experiance with the dreaded "locked pits" - I was gutted.
Awesome meeting none the less.

Considering the massive increase in costs of a superstock now compared to 1993, if 90 cars fronted at Rotorua that would be significant.

I think memories have blown some of the earlier numbers out of proportion a little, and while there's been the occasional NZ Superstock title with over 100 cars historically (certainly not since the advent of the separate Stockcar class though, I suspect), I don't think there were many and I don't they were over by more than 10-20. There's also a substantial difference between entries and cars that actually turned up and raced in most instances. I also wonder if Rotorua 1985 may hold the record for the most cars?

From memory (i don't have the numbers to hand but can find them later) Stratford hold the record for competitors out the gate onto the track at both the NZ Superstock and Stockcar Champs.
1990 was around 118, and 2008 was 173.

Been doing a bit of research, and back in 1997/98 at Rotorua 86 of the 95 entries actually raced, so if 'vegas can beat that figure (86 on track) this time around they're doing pretty well.
As far as the greatest number of Superstocks of all time, we're still not exactly sure but it seems it might be under 110. It seems 105 raced at Auckland in 1993, of the 117 entries, but that was beaten by the 109 raced at HB in 1998. More homework still to be done........

This topic again, same old answers for and against, pro's and con's. As the rules stand, there will be on double up's of numbers at championship meetings, and basically it was first entries in got to keep there single or double digit number and the rest who on there entry form supplied an alternate number got to change there number. We have an alternative if we don't want to change our numbers during the season and that is to run a three digit number. Now it doesn't matter if we run manual or electronic scoring systems, that only tells us who has passed the finish line, what about the ref and infield marshals who only have a split second or two to see a number in a whole pack of other cars and numbers. example 1 number 7 going cut over the pole line, report back to head ref "number 7 cut the pole line, which one there are 4 in this race, the black one there are two black number 7's............... example 2 move number 7 back half a lap for not stopping on the red, which one there are 2 of them sitting together the black one, theres two black 7s................. Black flag number 7 to noisey.................... etc etc etc One car one number, why make a mountain out of a mole hill, the rules are there in black on white. We don't have a 1000 cars in any one class so three digit is the way to go. DA
