Does what you are saying reiterate that this is a meaningless rule that should have been changed long ago. In my mind it does.
Hopefully the esteemed Mr Hickey does not have his path to entry hindered in any way at all.

The rule is abused or rather twisted at times anyway ie overseas drivers get scrutineered go out for a practice run get scrutineered again and same thing and they class each one as a meeting lol

This rule is a joke quite frankly!!! only instance i can see sence in it is for a rookie driver who has never raced Superstocks before, would you really want a rookie out in an NZ champs that has never raced before? ? Dangerous situation if you ask me. As for the likes of Stan it is an utter joke and needs eliminating from the rule book altogether. ;D

I may be wrong but I thought the rule was more to stop drivers appearing once only in a season at the nz champs and thus not supporting their class by appearing at other events. The 5 meeting rule for the overseas drivers I think came about as a way of lessening the chances of the title heading abroad after a close call one year.

I think Macgor is spot on.
And the promoters are big supporters of this rule, as it requires drivers to get there cars out for more of the season, and offers a better show to promote if the cars race more regularly.
How good would our spectating be if a heap of cars only turned out fo rthe NZs?
Experiance is not the issue - its about making sure the good drivers are out there, doing the business, gettign the fans along to the tracks with there appearances.

It was certainly the thought of Stan getting out there to win the NZs that had me ask the question in the first place. Surely the speedway community would almost unanimously be supportive, of wanting a man who has given so much to speedway, to be given entry to the event.
Hopefully his club mates share the esteem we all have for Stan and will do what they can to help his cause in the finals.

Maybe adopt a "golf like"idea and if you win a NZ title you get a 5 year exemption to enter the next 5 if you want to. But only applies to those who have attained 1nz/2nz/3nz ??
Just a thought.

Good luck to Stan if he can do it. Law of averages suggests it wont happen. However the same was said bout Bryce Penn.
Gota be in to win tho.
I think it is great to see the nz's run early. It has grabbed lots of cars out that would normally be stragglers.
90 plus cars gota be good.
See all there for the finals.

lets hope this is stans year finally!! good luck mate
on another note, just wondering how you can enter a event when you havent qualified for a entry? example, Stan ( nothing against him ) hasnt competed the one meeting rule yet, But has ENTERED a snz title meeting? Do the rules not apply until the meeting starts? or is filling out a ENTRY form and sending it in mean your ENTERED? G13-2-9 All competitors entering a North Island, South Island or New Zealand Championship must have raced in that class for at least 3 meetings in the current season or have raced in that class for at least 3 meetings in the previous season and at least 1 meeting in the current season and be a New Zealand resident. Overseas competitors must have raced in that class for at least five (5) meetings in the current season.
Just curious as in karting you cant enter until you have the correct lisense rating for the event, and must of had it for 10 days prior to the event

You can enter, but you can't race if you don't meet the criteria by, I guess, the time your car is scrutineered - or you have received a dispensation. Many drivers have entered this early season event without being qualified to race it, and some are still needing that one outing.

I always thought it was an odd time for Stan to retire, right when the biggest title was coming to his own track that he has so much to do with. It is great to hear, but not much of a suprise. ;D

If you raced the previous season, you need one meeting this season before the champs. If you didn't race last season you need to have done three meetings before the champs. Overseas competitors need to do five meetings before, regardless if they raced the previous season. Will SNZ allow dispensation if you can prove the weather thwarted your attempt to get a meeting in, possibly, depending which way the wind is blowing. Still can't see why any of this is at all necessary. Surely if someone has gone out and spent big money purchasing a Superstock we would want to get them on track at NZ championships wouldn't we. If a driver is dedicated enough to fly halfway around the world to enter one of our top meetings, wouldn't anyone with a milligram of sense welcome them with open arms, Is this not just another tragic example of doing things within speedway because, "thats what we have always done"? . I don't think I would welcome someone with open arms if they spent mega $$$ on a hot rod then flew over here to race at one meeting only and took the silver wear home and did nothing else for the sport in this country as you are referring to notknowmuch
