Has Stan raced at a meeting yet? The old one meeting is all I think 515r needs, so I guess boxing day will be the one - fingers crossed the rain doesn;t appear for that one or there might be dramas!
Actually - there are a few other drivers who are yet to appear this season who might be after the boxing day meeting to get the one meeting under the belt - good luck to all those guys leaving if for a late run!

There is KK and Waikaraka tomorrow both running S/Stocks.
The weather in the north is not looking promising for either at the moment. Is there a possibility of a mid week clubbie at Vegas after tonights cancellation?
Good to hear that Stan is giving it a shot.

Right you are Obby, there are a number that need to do one meeting a few that need 2 or more as well.
There will be an announcement on the Rotorua website according to the latest update in the next day or so.

superstock shakedown 26th dec wil count as a meeting Hope there is no major dramas with drivers leaving it until the last minute. Small little problems that might pop up on the big night. (even tho they can pop up when even) But good to get all the bugs and spider webs off.

Hope Stan's foray into retirement only brings him back well rested and better than ever.
I have a question about this have to do one meeting rule, why??? Sounds stupid to me, what Stan Hickey needs to do a meeting before the NZs to prove he can still drive, get real. Or is there some actual reason for this silly sounding rule?

So who decides who gets to enter and who doesn't if there are say 15 guys who haven't done any meetings? Are you saying that anyone can enter just the NZ title each year without making any contribution at all?

Are you saying that anyone can enter just the NZ title each year without making any contribution at all? If you raced the previous season, you need one meeting this season before the champs. If you didn't race last season you need to have done three meetings before the champs. Overseas competitors need to do five meetings before, regardless if they raced the previous season. Will SNZ allow dispensation if you can prove the weather thwarted your attempt to get a meeting in, possibly, depending which way the wind is blowing.

From October to late Dec doesn't seem hard to get a meet in. Just the ones that leave things to the last minute may struggle if weather not well.

Still can't see why any of this is at all necessary. Surely if someone has gone out and spent big money purchasing a Superstock we would want to get them on track at NZ championships wouldn't we. If a driver is dedicated enough to fly halfway around the world to enter one of our top meetings, wouldn't anyone with a milligram of sense welcome them with open arms, instead of saying "get lost you haven't done five meetings. If someone the calibre of Stan Hickey wants to semi-retire and only race the NZs each season, is it not bordering on immoral to tell him he can only enter if he has done another meeting first. Is this not just another tragic example of doing things within speedway because, "thats what we have always done"? The only drivers that we should consider putting limitations on what they may enter is those still on the mentor program.

Kevin Free, a three time NZ Superstock Champion was denied a start at the 2006 NZ Superstock Champs despite doing his one meeting because he had driven the previous season in (Std) Stockcars and only had that licence the previous season.
So if a Three Time Champion who has been driving stockcars since 1969 is stopped by this rule it doesn't leave much room for anybody else.
Mind you I know of drivers who didn't do any meetings, but they signed on with another car the three times needed, but didn't drive it.
