Hey Ladies and Gents,
First and foremost a huge thank you to the weather for allowing a top weekend for the thousands of fans around the country and world to witness some of the great teams races staged.
Turned up Friday night very late which is out of character for myself, but weather pending saw me catching up with the bros from around the country. Got to the track to see the Higgins crew doing a great job turning up the track. Following that the effort by all the drivers to pack the track somewhat turned out a great surface as the night went on.
The haunting air around the stadium set the anticipation for the nights first match up Wakiato vs Stratford. Personally I was just greatful to see one green flag. Some good racing on the friday night and the teams tried there all to see there teams home.
A few personal thoughts -
My Panthers looked rusty and unconvincing in both outings as far as there standards would be, 7p Peter Bengston doing what he does best, saved face for the team.
GB were extremly unlucky after looking at how sharp they were on night 2.
Nelson were ready for night 2.
Rebels... well I expected more on night one as always, but hey sometimes you cant teach old dogs new tricks. Ive always loved Mark Deckes brain explosions!
Wanganui, well people talk about them like they are the suprise package but we all know better.
But big hails to all teams you really tried to make it a competitive night!!!
Day 2 was at the track from midday and boy were we excited. Again the weather was teasing esp grand parade time.
Was great seeing the Golden Oldies stockcars. I am very much a fan and even remember a couple of those cars from my day. Loving the 7w T Mac special.
As for the teams races of the night.
Rebels finally kicked into some kind of gear and gave the never say die HB team and provided a taste of things to come.
GB took on the Wanderers and totally outclassed them showing some true teams racing brilliance.
The first semi was a one sided affair with the Tigers giving the Scrappers a serve all be it the debates that followed. I dont know the full story or things behind it, but something similar happened to Miers teams champs 1997 and was removed from the weekend.
The 2nd semi was a great race with Panthers and Wanganui. Wanganui as usual they showed once and for all they have what it takes to win the teams champs, but like other years a tiny bit of bad luck stopped them getting a stranglehold on the race, I for one am proud of the Warriors like every other year. Don't know whether to tell Scotty he is bulletproof or just an animal lol.
The battle for 5th saw GB again in amazing form against a battered Wanganui team. Both teams put on a great show and both deserved to be higher on the podium.
Race of the night saw the angry Tigers bring it the Rebels. One thing I liked was that Rebels finally looked angry enough themselves and as well all know were treated to an amazingly brutal race.
With the final looking one sided, I was proud of the Scrappers efforts as a team and guttered Johnson got walled early as potentially he is a great thinker in teams racing. Was good to see the Panthers get some revenge, just a shame it wasn't against the true rivals.
A few last things
Higgins - Since teams 1994 has been the backbone, to much skill and precision. I wish he would never retire.
Bengston - the other driver who is right up there as the best. This has been a fact since at least 2006 now.
Ogle - His comments after racing and how awesome it was and his never say did attitude. Hope his team stick alongside.
Tom Harris and GB - Amazing skills shown, Harris in particular shows all the signs of class.
Mooney and Taylor - drink to much brutal river water. Jokes aside these guys always show 200% every SINGLE time.
All in all a great weekend and I got my money worth and was stoked to see so many friends as usual. Thanks PN Speedway
