Hi all – thanks for taking the time to read. Let me know if you have any questions, or want any other information – not sure if this is interesting enough to keep on with haha.
Little damage from the last meeting, so only had to strip a tyre or two, get a new tube in etc. Added some panelling in by the radiator to try and stop the crap from coming through into the radiator, in an effort to keep the engine at a good consistent temperature.
Good field of local cars, we had 14 this race, with an additional visitor from Christchurch, 10c in the c Noel Edgeworth machine. Sorry fellas, didn’t get your names, but great to see you both over here in the camper, and glad that OAS could help you out with the Radiator. THe two lads had a sidecar in the camper as well, and were planning on racing stockcar and sidecar in Westport – good to see!
Also had another new driver from Westport, in the x 5c car, and great to see him getting amongst it, finishing three races and coming away 5th on points for the day.
Given we had a few regulars away with work (shift work strikes again) it was a pretty good turnout for what was a Modified meeting. Weather was good for them, despite the heavy rain Thursday Friday, and we knew the track would be heavy for teh nig tyred team. Glen Leech was unstoppable, breaking the lap record twice, once in the first and again in the third.
Luke Keegan and Brandon Parkinson had a run off for second, with Keegan taking it away, but young parky was still pretty stoked, as shown by the donuts at the end.
Race 1
I was off grid 14, and wobbled away at the start. Track was very heavy and wet, with the mods ripping up the surface and creating a pretty good “wind row” mid track, or “berm” if you’re a dirt biker. They put plenty of water on it, and we did a bunch of laps to try and pack it down again, but we only really succeeded in making the track a bit more marbly, and a little lumpy. Though, to be fair, I think the small tyred stockcars cut through the surface pretty good for the mods to rip through to the bottom layer and get more drive.
It was pretty loose up the top if you got up there, and I ran around there a wee bit when going in too hot. The boys got stuck into each other, and I sort of ended up with nothing around me happening. Came in 5th in this one I think? There was plenty of action, with lots of spins, hits, wall rides, with clevo right amongst it in the tank again.
Dwayne Honey showed plenty of pace after doing a bunch of hitting earlier in the season, and ran away from the pack to take the win.
Race 2
Think I was off grid 7 on this one. Got an ok start, made it around the first corner and as usual cars everywhere with a few in the wall, into each other, and spinning on the infield.
After a couple of laps I popped out behind Dwayno in 82gm who was leading and fair flying.
Managed to get close enough to him for a dive up the inside, and spun him going into turn one. Wobbled away into the lead and watched 56y Ross’s steering break as he went into the wall in a big way, not once but twice.
Came around again, and the red lights were on, I thought that was what it was for as he was stationary half way along the front straight. Funnily enough they weren’t immediately tending to him. Looked further round the track, and there’s a car on its roof – turned out clevo had fed 10c into the wall,
then as he had just got going again (99gm) Dwayno swept around the outside. Clevo reckoned the tank probably pulled its biggest numbers in its longest gear (1st) before changing, and managing to dive into Dwayne Hitman Honey.
Dwayne hit the big berm, and barrel rolled, going over 4 times on first reports, but only 2 and a half in the final wash up. He was all good, and they pulled the wing off, fired the beast up in the pits, and made it out in the third, on ya Honeybee, he was on a mission.
Clevo must have been fizzed, as after that he chased down and got into Olly BIG MISTAKE he can;t stop talking about it, and now all he sees is tanks on the bumper in his dreams hahahahahah just kidding clevo
Red lights came off, and I got back into it, taking the 2nd win in two meetings, and the third for the car after captain hahnos guest drive. Track was a lot more drivable in this one , but still pretty heavy on the outside. Car certainly enjoyed it a lot better than the first, which meant I had some more fun haha
Had another flag, and Craig B< mate your gonna get sacked if you don't get a photo of these very rare occasions when everyone spins out and I get a chance to win the race haha.
Race 3
Was off grid 3 on this one, and was on 25 points, with towbar on 26 and tony Stanton on 27. Got off to a reasonable sort of start, and was running 1st and 2nd with Dwayne Honey again.
Went into turn ¾ after a couple of laps, side by side, hit the berm and popped the RR off the rim – had a slow leak that I should have repaired, and it must have gone down a wee bit faster than normal. That will teach me! Got down the pole line, and wobbled around for a wee bit, had a couple of shots at Tony Stanton, towbar, and had Jayden (J Bar) in 29gm try and wind us in at slow speed. Had another wobble around with Tony and towbar, and then common sense called, and pulled in – only have one 225/70/15, so hopefully haven’t wrecked it too bad badly ha-ha.
10c steamed into the tank, with the swinger driving this one, was a good one two and must have stirred the tank up, and he wound 10c in and bent the front bumper, or else it was 10c that bent the bumper keeping it up it into the back of the tank - they were both good hits haha.
The 10c boys were still fizzed, and hopefully they had a great day. The car was fast, and we were happy to help out with radiators and tear offs – good on ya fellas, hope we see you back over at the West Coast stockcar champs, our next meeting, along with a Demolition derby.
THere was plenty of other action, with only 5 cars finishing the race after 13 started - 5 cars did pop the RR off, so the berm was pretty good on the day haha
Our new driver of the day, in 5gm did a great job getting amongst it, and keeping it straight and finishing three races, and winding up 5th on points. A great effort and good to see another keen westportian out there. I understand another few cars are up there with new drivers, so hopefully we see them come down for a spin as well.
New driver
Olly carved it up in the last race, with the tri rail humming, and taking the win, even though the donkey took the flag in a towbar move - appropriate since they tied on pionts, and towbar was just behind him trying to pinch it too haha - olly didn;t stand a chance to get the flag.
tony and towbar came 1st equal on points for the day, with Towbar calling everyone flag racers, then coming through to win overall on the day, after taking 2nd the week before in the stock shock - dont think your falling anyone T-Bar, we know this is all part of your master plan for the West Coast champs at the next meeting - you can;t hide in that pink car of yours!
Tony Stanton has the car flying after some set up changes, and showed why he can make a formidable teams racer after doing the job on some of the points leaders on towbars behalf the week before at stockshock - a well deserved 1st = this weekend, when it seemed most had a poke in the third including yours truly ahha.
Towbars nice pink paintjob – just the right colour for a flag racer he reckons
Hopefully you can all come over for the next meeting, 2 weeks away which features the west coast stockcar champs, and a demolition derby - I bet we get a heap of the usual visistors who don;t mind coming over for a trophy. The action has been good, and with at least 18 locals looking at turning up, we could have a fiull 26 car feild.
See you at www.greenstonepark.co.nz and dont forget to check out coastphotos.org/Photo/index.php?level=collection&id=5 for heeeaaaps more photos of ALL classes at this event. Awsome zerokillerz, your smokin em bro
