Mike Thompson passed away early this morning at home. He was an enthusiastic stockcar supporter and driver. He had raced both ministocks and stockcars at stratford.
He was a fantastic father to his two children and a loving husband to his wife. You will be sorely missed around the tracks mikey.

My condolences also to Mikes family and friends this is sad news. I went to school and played rugby with Mike, a good bloke that could run like a rabbit.

d Our thoughts and prayers are with Vicki, Kane & Michaela. Good friends like Mike are hard to find. You will be missed on the track, in the pits and specially down in the Hawera Rail Yard. You got so close to your dream only a couple of weeks away and you would have been driving those trains.
You were there when Jim needed you through the good times and bad. Couldn't of asked for a better friend.
We will all miss you Mike, your great sense of humour, loyalty and honesty.

My thoughts and heart go out to Vickie Michaela and Kane - its been a very sombre and sobering day. Mikey was probably my closest mate! Over the years we had many many adventures together at work, at speedway and at home..... I have known Mikey for a long time and today I was put on my arse by the sad news of his passing. Mikey was just mad nuts about speedway, with big dreams and schemes..... We will miss you lots Mikey, your laughs and smiles and that wicked sense of humour!  RIP Mate! Drew |

Condolences to mikes family and friends. I was horribly shocked when i heard the news today definatly wont be the same seeing ya smiling face on train at fonterra or at a track around New Zealand.

At this time it is always sad to lose a loved one . Well Mike it's time for you too go to the speedway track in the sky and join the great drivers and race them. RIP Mike and to his family Mike will always be with you in ur hearts and mind so if you need to know something just ask Mike and if it's right Mike will let you know. |

Thanks everyone for all of the kind words I'm Mikes brother and apart from his wife Vicki and kids Michaela and Kane and his close mates his other big love was the speedway. He would call me here in OZ and talk for hours about his races and his plans to build a new stock car and what a ball he had at the track with all of you guys, and I just wanted to thank all of you for helping him when he needed it and for the enjoyment he got from being at the speedway with you guys . I can tell you that it meant more to him than you will ever know. Ive been to Stratford speedway with him a few times and when he had the stocky on the back and was heading out to the track there wasn't a happier guy on the planet. I am gonna miss those days of going to the track with him.

Mike Thompsons funeral will be held at the Normanby domain hall (community center) on Wednesday 29th June. The service will start at 1:30pm

A big thanks to all who came to farewell Mike yesterday. It was a fantastic event.
Also special thanks to friends and families of the 22s, 13s and 32p stockcars for making their cars available as part of the guard of honour - Mikey would have been stoked!
