I have always thought a Ranfurly Shield type trophy would fit in well in both Superstock and Stockcar teams racing. Would be up for grabs at all home and away teams races and within any championship type meeting the current holder attends meaning it could change hands up to 4 times in one weekend (12 team round robin format). If started this year the holders within each class without a doubt would be the Panthers & Young Guns.

doesn't that exist in the stockcar teams champs, with the winner being the host for the next team champs ?

There will never be a change to the Palmy Teams event and who would want to see such an event change. I would be willing to put up a trophy ,whether it be a sheild or cup for provincial teams like [Waikato ,Rotorua ,Auckland ,Hawkes Bay, Palmerston North,Stratford ,Wellington, Wanganui ,Nelson , Christchurch,Dunedin etc ] to compete for at either Palmy Teams or Auckland teams . The winner of that event would win the trophy and then have to accept challenges from a certain number of teams in a season. The winner of any challenged teams race would take the trophy back to their club and have to race against the challengers already setup for that year. Something like this would be a drawcard for the spectators. I would be willing to put two trophys up ,one for Superstocks and one for stockcars . This is only an offer ,so if anyone is keen to set something up feel free to pm me. Another idea could be to setup the first meeting at any track [ maybe Rotorua or Hawkes Bay or even Palmy. Where every team has a chance to take it . Clubs keen to hold the first meeting could put their interest forward and then they could be drawn to allocate the place. P.s and also not to leave out KihiKihi.

Have to agree Rover8 that your method would be the best and most logical way to approach it. I only mentioned the twelve team format (eg. Palmy) as apart from the South Island Tri-series and the odd interclub teams race in the North Island the majority of Superstock teams racing is based around the Palmy and Auckland events. There is no way I would want either the Superstock or Stockcar events changed but believe a challenge type shield/trophy would add to the sport and increase spectator appeal by the likleyhood of having more teams racing spread throughout the country.

Sure mate ,would be a good addition to the seasons programme. Not a biggie to organise either.

Its a good idea, and one which has been suggested many times in the past. However, the real issue is not the existence of a challange shield, but the need to find a substantial sponsor to go with it. Teams racing is expensive, both from the viewpoint of travel (five cars and crews is quite an expense) and from the damage and repairs which are needed. I dont think the current lack of teams racing (outside of the two big meetings) is due to a lack of interest from drivers or fans, but more to do with the costs involved. A trophy on its own probably wont change much - find a national or multi-national sponsor to put their name on the trophy and then it might happen.

I guess local clubs and supporters would get behind their team and get they could seek funding and sponsership from local businesses and organisations. Dont pub charities fund community sporting clubs .

ideal race to kick it off would be the nelson tigers vs pn panthers before team champs that means u could have 3 or 4 teams headin to pn or to nelson to try take it and at teams it goes on the sheild is up for grabs

best to keep them separate . the two teams that win this year ar the first to hold the shield you have to take it a way from there home track in front of there fans ie cantabs bell swingers .be like you might win the npc but you don't have the shield you have both well you are a legion. also no home track racing ie pn v pn but say hb is the holder then the b team can challenge
