Speedway King: The Ivan Mauger Story

Transport Gallery, Canterbury Museum
Motorcycle speedway champion Ivan Mauger is regarded as one of the greatest riders in the history of the sport. This exhibition showcases a selection of memorabilia from throughout Ivan’s career, including his World Speedway Trophy and three motorcycles, one of which is the famed “Triple Crown Special” gold-plated Jawa 500 speedway bike. General admission to the Museum is free; donations are appreciated.
Speedway King: an evening with Ivan Mauger

7.00 pm – 8.00 pm
Great Hall, Arts Centre
Hear nine-time World Champion Ivan Mauger talk about his experiences on the speedway circuit, his triumphs and challenges, and the characters that inspired him along the way. Cost: $5 per person. Bookings are essential; telephone 366 9429 extn 817.

Remember the days, when you would go to the stockies and you would get to see Ronnie Moore, Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger? fantastic days, i think its dissapointing that you dont see the bikes in action at your local stockcar track any more. I guess its got something to do with the wall, i dont know, i wish WP would bring top flight bikes to the track, the bikes, mods, and saloon classes along with two grades of stockcar, now thats a meeting. stop the shouting over the microphone and make sure the burger buns are soft and im in heaven. ;D ;D

I am too young to have seen the great speedway riders in action, but I have seen video on Youtube of a couple of international test races at Western Springs from years ago when the track was still banked. Absolutely great stuff.
