WELL!! Thanks for posting that Petrolfumes. We were amazed when we heard about Gaskin being pinged - none of us could recall anything about Gaskin in that race that was suspect. Did we all have our eyes painted on? So with the benefit of video, yes it can be seen that his left front wheel drops inside the poleline. Did that contribute to him being able to catch Rees or not?? Certainly not what could ever be classed as a blatant move!

Thanks Dave, that's how I saw it from the middle of that corner. Certainly did not warrant an exclusion from the rest of the meeting.
Did you get a vid of the valance hit that saw him excluded from the first night. Again it appeared to me that the second attack on the 84i car was on the track when it started.

Wow, just skimmed it for a second. That explains why I didn't see Gaskin's car lift up from the infield like I normally do when a car crosses the pole line there. The infield at Rotorua is raised down that end, and from where I normally stand the pole line is well hidden from view. I think exclusion was pretty harsh, with the benefit of the second look we're now all getting.......

Agree - doesn't look illegal at all! What is the officials accountability for getting it wrong? Gaskins was the humiliation of getting trailered. What's yours? Hey petrolfumes you got a vid of the Vallance hit on the I car?

(g) Any competitor unfairly using the pole line to advantage by placing one or more wheels over the pole line to eliminate another competitor will be fined and excluded.
(h) Any competitor that deliberately places one or more wheels over the pole line to avoid contact with another competitor shall be fined and excluded from the race.
just after the pole in the video you see the front of gaskins car drop down right there his whole left front wheel is over the pole line now the question is was it deliberate one thing I would like to see is rotorua paint there pole lines ;D

not as bad as it looked from where we were siitting.but a wheel over the pole line still counts as a grass cut though

To the naked eye it looked like gaskin had cut alot deeper on the poleline , but after watching this it would hardly warrant the penalty gaskin got . There was alot worse than that on the final night . I retract my comments made earlier about gaskins move . And maybe if gaskin was in the final heat things may have changed.
What is the rule on cutting the poleline , seems that heaps do it . But under a protest it can change the results of a race .
Another one spotted was cars putting in big hits then retiring to the infield , but once the race was over started up and drove to the pits .

Did you get a vid of the valance hit that saw him excluded from the first night. Again it appeared to me that the second attack on the 84i car was on the track when it started. i agree, he had already caught rees when a single wheel crossed the poleline and he gained no advantage from it. imo putting a single wheel over the poleline often gains the driver no advantage, in a time trial it MIGHT have a split second advantage. this rule needs to be seriously looked at, its completely retarded that a few millimeters or a couple of centimeters over the poleline is concidered an advantage in a contact class. it also calls into question how "over the poleline" is defined, does a wheel coming into contact with the poleline (which is different at each track) constitute crossing it, or does the wheel have to actually completely pass over it onto the grass? okay, thats the end of that little rant. ill finish by saying gaskin should have been relegated for his action, or maybe excluded from that race, but certianly not from the whole meeting

Wow, that was a harsh call, lucky the pole line was so easy to see, this shot at start of night... If they are gonna get that picky next thing they will ping the tank for being too noisy, is there a rule about that...

Nothing illegal about that hit, Gaskin was unlucky to get pinged for it. Now that Rees has won again, the others will have to step up and stop him.

Refs call without the benefit of video , the call was bad though and prevented Gaskin finishing the job in heat three.

Rotorua is a mighty place to race, and they have done so much work there over the past five or so years, BUT they really need to purchase some white paint for the pole line. Looking at Gregobros photo it looks like the track is each side of the concrete.

Refs call without the benefit of video , the call was bad though and prevented Gaskin finishing the job in heat three. agreed. i wonder how hard it would be to get something set up at tracks that regularly have video being recorded by the promotion to make replays available for the refs, or if there is even anything about it in the rule book. here at palmy we often have replays on the big screen, especially at the big meetings like teams champs, so we already have most of the systems in place for the officials, it would probably just be a case of getting a monitor and feed in place for the referees box. perhaps the refs could get a laptop and a smartphone with tethering capabilities and subscribe to the speedbox feed for replays at the big meets

Refs call without the benefit of video , the call was bad though and prevented Gaskin finishing the job in heat three. I've just got off the phone to Pete. He has some very interesting comments to make of the entire issue, extremely interesting in fact, and will be on LiveSPORT radio at 10.05am tomorrow (Friday) morning to talk about it - and many other things, of course.
