After listening to Dave Birdling and whoever he had on the infield at the Super Saloons in Nelson I would say it went well. Tonight I tuned in just before the last heat and it was often hard to hear as there were two or on the odd time three people talking at once.
I'm not knocking the guys that were calling the action tonight as commentating is a very tough job in speedway especially with big fields of super stocks but it may be something to think about. Sometimes less is more!
Less isn't necessarily more if you're trying to paint a picture for those not seeing the picture magem.
I think to make an informed comment, you probably needed to listen to the whole show, which began before 5.30pm, NOT just the final 10 minutes.
You'd have got grid draws live from the clubrooms at drivers briefing, full grids, Paul Hickey & Mintie doing race commentary, placings, points, passing moves, relegations and promotions (with the reasons for each), plus interviews with all 26 finalists before the event and each retirement as they rolled out of the contest, an interview with the eventual winner as he prepared to do battle as the lone contender without a P on his door and the Top 3 immediately afterwards etc etc etc.
Speedway is not a scripted and rehearsed show, but ad-libbed as the action unfolds and sometimes with only a very small window of opportunity to get that information out (so sometimes, although regretable, there is a little talking over the top or butting in to grab that titbit of infomation before a person, driver or otherwise, disappears). Craig Boote said afterwards it was the most professional commentary he'd ever heard at a motorsport event, but obviously it still didn't meet everybodies expectations.......next time you'll know not to shell out your hard-earned on tuning in. Oh, that's right, it was FREE and you're STILL whinging!! ;D
Barry please slow down and read the post properly!!!! What I was saying is two guys calling a race at the same time isn't always the best way to go as you can get them talking over each other. I would imagine this happens a lot but goes largely unnoticed. However if streams are the feture it becomes a lot more pronounced over a stream.
I wasn't aware one comment that people might like to think about would make me such an arrogant villain
It wasn't a whinge at anyone as I stated, I enjoyed it very much! I just thought I would make a constructive observation. I'm starting to wish I hadn't!!!
I'm sorry if I offended you but if you read my post again I think you will see that most definitely wasn't the intention. I thoroughly enjoyed your interviews and information through the time I was listening. Especially the Joe Faram one before the third heat with the comment that finished with You would be a popular winner! Never a truer word spoken.
Man I hope this one doesn't get me in trouble
