Try this Barry; created by Kaspa69, and perfected by yours truly ;D
ok this is what i did on paper at home
1v2 3v4 5v6 7v8 9v10 11v12 13v1 12v2 11v3 10v4 9v5 8v6 13v7
so it will work just add a team 2 the numbers and organise them into a fair time between races and its all go
Your seeded teams are 1, 3, 5 and 7. The only glitch is that team number 13 will meet two seeded teams, but as you noted in your prerequisites, that's unavoidable, and anyway, 13 is an unlucky number!

well 12 is easy, 11 is easy, (both been done before) i thought there was already a formula in place that could handle any amount of teams?? There kinda was one for 13+........but once studied closer (over the last week when it became obvious 13 teams was a distinct possibilty) it had its flaws. Maybe the whole draw should just be random? But would you be happy with the Tigers meeting the Panthers on night 1? Or a replay of last year's Final?

Stratford got 4th last year so will be one of the top seeds? No; Stratford came SECOND last year, so they will be one of the seeded teams, with whatever advantages come from that status. Wow how could I get that so wrong lol Go the Naki boys!!

Used like you've done it the race gaps vary from 2 races (only 1 race in between) to 9 races. Every time you move 1, you actually move two teams, so you get one closer to be correct whilst the other team, which was right, moves further away.

will the draw be done like the Stockcar teams with teams into groups and if it was groups there will have to be 3 groups of 3 and 1 group of 4

that means team#12 doesnt race a seeded team if im not mistaken They are the lucky team. With 9 Teams needing to race a seeded team and the seeded teams can only do 8 races its impossible

1v2 3v4 5v6 7v8 9v10 11v12 13v1 2v3 4v5 6v7 8v9 10v11 12v13 Seeded team 1 4 7 10 Perfect, thank you so much. All race gaps either 6 or 7 races, as you've said, it's impossible to get it 100% perfect, but that met all of the criteria considering there was always going to be one odd team out. Last year the "easy" draw in the 11 team format (meeting 2 unseeded teams) drew the Panthers, who were not seeded after crapping out the year before.

will the draw be done like the Stockcar teams with teams into groups and if it was groups there will have to be 3 groups of 3 and 1 group of 4 No, same as with the 11 team Superstock format of the last two years, no groups, just overall points.

If it's a 13 team draw, it will go like this
Race 1 - Team 12 vs Team 13
Race 2 - Team 10 Rotorua Rebels vs Team 11
Race 3 - Team 8 vs Team 9
Race 4 - Team 6 vs Team 7 Nelson Tigers
Race 5 - Team 4 Straftord Scrappers vs Team 5
Race 6 -Team 2 vs Team 3
Race 7 - Team 13 vs Team 1 Palmerston North Panthers
Race 8 - Team 11 vs Team 12
Race 9 - Team 9 vs Team 10 Rotorua Rebels
Race 10 - Team 7 Nelson Tigers vs Team 8
Race 11 - Team 5 vs Team 6
Race 12 - Team 3 vs Team 4 Stratford Scrappers
Race 13 - Team 1 Palmerston North Panthers vs Team 2
If it's 12 teams, it will be the same as for the NZ Stockcar Champs earlier this month; Top 4 teams from 2011 heading up the 4 groups, 2 other teams randomly drawn underneath each them giving 4 groups of three.

Ideally, no, we don't want to tell anyone "Sorry, we already have 12 teams, you miss out this year". However, it may be that we have to, if having 13 teams causes too much of a headache for the organizer's then someone is going to have to be told they can't enter. Personally I'd prefer to have as many teams as possible entered, but if a team were to be excluded my vote (not that we get one) would go to the Mustangs, as we already have the Panthers. Perhaps the Mustangs could be kept as an extra team to make up the numbers in the future, and if there are 12 other teams, then they wouldn't be needed.
