I am, like many of you, are looking forward to the teams champs this weekend.
I was wondering if someone, who KNOWS what they are talking about, can tell us about the tactics that are discussed within the team before each race.
Eg at flag drop we often see cars on the brakes, who is going to run etc.
So what sort of tactics are there, please share?

U must know your opposition weakness strengths and your own teams as well for a start off. Some teams go into a race with plans some dont.plans can go out the window by the first corner, ideal plan is to race to the teams strengths and weaknesses if you came across a team that is well rounded in all areas like the Panthers were the best way is to smash the heck out of them because they are so hard to beat tactically ie The Tigers a couple of seasons ago did this and it worked. having said all that it also comes down to being able to read a race well know where your opposition are judge what damage they have know where your own team are etc, timing is another crucial key when to pass a blocker how to what angle what speed how to stop a runner its all timing and positioning, also luck plays a big part and taking opportunites. Never underestimate any team or any driver

Martys right, but reverse psycology works too, and him and the Allstars proved it! Back then Marty was a bit more vocal bout people not smashing and him hitting more and stuff, and his car was not as fast as alot of the Superstars out there. Noone thought Marty would run, so they chose Marty to run!, and with a bit of cunning and timely blocking skills by his teammates, Marty crossed the line for the win putting the Allstars into Finals night causing a huge upset.
Best tactic ever!

Never underestimate any team or any driver Quite possibly the truest word that Marty has ever spoken, as he has proven on-track in superstock teams racing ;D

Best tactic ever! Actually we went into that race with no tactics lol I was blocking and 2 laps down but when I saw Gary Ellis slowing in the lead and mucking around didnt know what he was doing so I decided to run lol I asked him after why did u stop he said he wanted to see what was going on lol must be an old age thing?

A very wise (ex) Tiger told me that it's not a bad thing if you get spun in the first lap or two, just to sit for five seconds on the infield and look who is where, who is running, who is out and then go back out there and do the bizzo.

Barry Hunter in his later years would pull to the infield and watch what was happening and if needed would return to the track and deal to the leading opposition. If not needed his car was good for the next round. They soon outlawed that type of tactic.
Barry and Eddie Hawkins before that were masters of parking in a corner and nailing the opposition as they came past , also outlawed eventually. Hilarious at times though.
Kevin Free was a master of standing on the brakes just as an attacking car was beyond the point of no return of nailing him to the wall , end result was often the attacking car destroying itself on the wall while Kevin hung a left and drove around him. Saw someone do it at Huntly recently , still works a treat. Most drivers just seem to keep their foot 'up it' come what may which sometimes seems a bit suicidal to me. I love watching 'thinking' teams racers work their craft.

Marty has hit the nail on the head well along with Macgor..........." a thinking teams racer"..........Not a fan of shane penn but respect his ability as a teams racer, fantastic runner, does not just bash into the back of a blocker rather hits the blocker with his right front on the blockers left rear bumper knocking the blocker off line and sneaks up the inside. it's also vital to have a balanced car, an unbalanced car on contact will result in lose of control everytime.
Same when blocking you need to try and keep the car balanced and pointing straight, Penn as a runner will go wide and force the block car to turn hard right and this is when he preforms the move stated above, when the blocker stays straight this move is harder to preform, the hard right turn by the blocker unbalances the car and makes it easier for shane to preform this move.
a start tactic or race tactic will only get a team so far and as stated this can go pear shape in the first corner, teams/drivers should be talking over various situations that could occur and have the drivers thinking patterns in tune with the rest of the team. Breaking down the oppositions strengths and weaknesses is vital! yes treat every team as a serious threat but do not use the same tactic or thinking for every team.
Barry hunter is a great guy to chat with regarding tactics and how to hit, take lines etc etc, the man is full of knowledge, and like video footage is a great way to learn about what works and the do's and do nots of hitting.
Any team can be beaten in teams racing if you go out prepared with an understanding of your teams ability and the oppositions ability and race to your teams strengths and not a tactic your team simple is not capable of.
Good luck to all teams this weekend, let the best team win!! ;D

Yer I talked to Higgy after that race was saying to him I been saying it for the last 3 years the only way to beat that Panther team is to smash the heck out of them he grinned and said yup that was our plan and we were lucky that it worked you can have all these plans tactics in place easy said executing them on the track is another thing its often very hard work

Have to hand it to the drivers, its hard watching all drivers in a team running when they are behind and could easy win the race if someone got on the brakes. But understanding the race at time is a must.
