being on show for your team with 16000+ people cheering you on probably would be quite appealing. Just all the hype and atmosphere is probably why so many drivers love it.

Im just guessing but it could be the fact that in a teams race working as a team some of these guys stand alot better chance of having some success than they might at an individual championship?? Plus being by far the largest speedway spectacle in the country must be something else to come out and race infront of ;D

I think timing around Team Champs has a lot to do with numbers at the NZs. With the exception of last season (late december) and the rerun event at Kihikihi (although rules state you can't enter the rescheduled weekend even if it is a full rerun unless you were in the first attempt as I recall) the NZs seem to always be on the weekend preceeding the Teams.

The greater chance of success in a Team (and not wanting to let their clubmates down)
The thrill of Teams Racing once a year (not all do the Auckland Teams)
Teams paid a fee to turn up and race, unlike a title
Half of the cars in the Teams mentioned above are from Palmy anyway, NOT from the places you've named
The Poms don't have to run 5 meetings to race in the Teams
There was more than 5 Nelson cars at the NZ's
12 x 5 = 60 cars........the World 240's and the NZ's attract at least that many cars if not more (over 80 at the NZ's last weekend, which is 20 more than 60)
