In saying all that congrats to all teams for showing up and putting your bodies and cars on the line. Great to see the rebels through. What a fantastic race between the hawkeyes and the lions. Would have to be one of the more action packed qualifying nights.

OK just to change the subject a bit , I've just watched the whole night on speedbox ( top work guys) and couldn't help but notice how hard and fast Dale Ewers hits! in the first race some of the footage was incredible, I'm not sure if it was the camera angle or something but he looked to be traveling way quicker than the cars around him and just nailing them at will without backing off at all! seems like he has just one speed. In the interview at the end he tells of his first experience of teams racing as a spectator thinking" all these guys have rocks in their heads".judging by what i saw tonight and on other occasions he's raced for the tigers i'd say he would have to be one of the best hitters out there.

Its that home built Peterson/Higgins/Ewers chassis that he has, Higgy was the same and fatty was too for that matter.

Okay so having been there tonight, the rees incident; he's a racing car driver and as one he is not going to go to the infield unless told to so therefore refs decision being from rotorua no biast there as palmy now face rotorua in final anyway. So on the whinging panel how about the chch car that lined up a stationary car on the wall all beit hawkes bay doing the same to gb in there race. And...chch and gb cars grass cutting not being pulled up for. all i say is nelson rotorua looking good but both p teams need to pick it up ay

I noticed a lot of drivers getting taken infield and not disengaging tonight.
And yes im a mighty keyboard racer.wah wah wah.
But if gotta give a big hand to the auckland driver who got taken infield, tried to stop, went from tack to infield and back onto the track, turned back around went onto the infield did a turn and went back on. Talk about following the rules. My hat off to him.

The poms were ripped off!!! Simple !!! Well done parmy at least you guys are consistent at what you do! Oh round things, The poms did well, but they were a bit behind the 8 ball with damaged machinery and lack of knowledge of a wet Palmy. The Miers thing round the wall.. well Malcolm Ngatai did it at the Stockcar teams night in the rain to win, and even said he copied what Scotty does, on Speedbox. I think the rain forces it and the drivers take advantage of it. The Rees thing was silly and unfortunate, but it was Not his or his teams fault. ANYONE on the infield could have called him off with authority. The Brits can try and get back into the seeds so they dont have the very noticed disadvantage they (and Waikato) had tonight, and Palmy will hopefully get knocked off their perch legally tomorrow.

another year more controversy where would we be without it lol Yes Pete should have been sent infield Scott was excluded a few season ago for riding the wall in this instance its 50 50 and hard to call track was wet cars were doing it Scotty did it more especially on that last lap when a car rides the wall that fast he is very hard to get on a wet track so I am 50 50 on that one and I think the refs might have been as well, To lambast Pete Rees though is wrong not his fault at all. Thge racing was pretty good best race Hawkeyes v Lions followed by the Tigers v Warriors,
REBELS look like the most polished team on the night WILDCATS looked good against the Rebels first few laps til the Rebels got a hold of the race and then it went pear shaped for the Wildcats as they got picked off. 3 Wildcats let the lead Glen eagle run round the outside of them on the last lap Wildcats just need more time and Gelling GLEN EAGLES performed netter than I thought then would bur outclassed by the Polished rebels team. TIGERS very lucky to win against the Allstars but in doing so with 2 cars showed their class. Had their hands full against the Warriors as well and survived ALLSTARS Saw some Darryl Hammond of old came close to beating the Tigers great effort and also not a bad effort against the Warriors WARRIORS good race against the Allstars and 2nd best race of the night against the Tigers SCRAPPERS Showed glimpses of form against the Mustangs and Wanderers but just didnt race as good as they have the last couple of seasons MUSTANGS were looking good tonight closest race of the night was against the Wanderers WANDERERS Outclassed the Scrappers came close against the Mustangs but unluckily feel short HAWKEYES good blocks on the Panthers but unfortunately nearly all race directed to the Panther block cars which meant Shane Penn ran untouched till the final lap which was all to late awesome race against the Lions best race of the night which could of gone either way LIONS as above and brilliant to snatch victory over the Hawkeyes in a brutal teams race also raced brilliant against the Panthers and were unlucky shame the track was wet from rain PANTHERS too classy for the Hawkeyes in that race and against the Beaten up Lions cars made hard work of the win in different ways
Tier 1 The winner of the Panthers rebels will race the Tigers in the Final the Tigers will have too much experience against the Mustangs in the other semi
Tier 2 The Lions will progress from this to race for 3rd

I was watchin speedbox and I didn't see the fire extinguishers go off or Rees undo his belts from where I was sitting.............................you must all have better eyes than me lf they did squirt the extinguisher in there it's a pretty gutsy call firing you expensive race engine without checking it out fisrt.................that dry powder gets everywhere

Marty sums the night (and the incidents) up pretty well.
At the drivers' briefing, drivers were told that if a car rolled and finished on its wheels, the reds would be activtated, the driver and car would be checked, and where possible, the driver could continue in the race. I was too far away to see what happened around the Rees car, but the general feeling where I was sitting was that he should have been allowed to carry on. As it was, he only completed another half lap before hitting the wall by the pit gate.
The Ewers exclusion in the race against the Warriors looked pretty straight-forward; 14V was parked on the grass at an angle to the track with perhaps one wheel on or over the pole line. He was stationary when Ewers hit him. The knowledgable people around me immediately commented that the ref would be looking at that hit.
All in all it was a great night of racing; I reckon the most action on opening night since the two tier system was introduced a few years ago. Teams were racing to win at all costs, and not just for points. The advantage of a four-pool draw with winners going through was immediately obvious. There will be some sore blokes this morning, and some hard work going in to fix cars for tonight's action. I can't wait!

the issue is not about rees coming to rest on his wheels and carrying on - dont see a problem with that. the issue is was it outside assistance when the fire marshall put the fire out ? this happens quite often so there must be an official rule in the book on it. is there an expert out there that can look it up and put this to rest ?
