Well done Panthers. I kinda felt sorry for the Nelson car that was stalled in front of me on the Grandstand straight (I think it was Ewers). Tough luck Nelson, maybe next year. Drunk idiots abusing people should be treated as drunk idiots, please don't judge the rest of us based on a few idiots that IMO should be tossed out by security. Most of us are well reasoned people who know to give credit where credit is due. As for Rees not being moved back in the semi against the Rebels, I thought he should have been moved back, and was surprised to see that he wasn't. But it was the refs call. All in all, I thought it was a good night, with mostly clean racing. Mustangs were a bit stupid in their races, especially the one that decided to tear up the grass a bit and got him self sent back to the pits, there's just no need for that stupidity. Race of the night has to be Mustangs vs Wanderers, what a race! Congratulations to Karl Ross and commiserations to Kerry Humphrey, the last couple of laps of you two dueling it out was amazing. It was Andy McCabe wasn't it? Regardless a fantastic race Oh, it was too. For some reason I thought it was the 66p of Kerry Humphrey, but after checking the results thread, it was in fact Andy McCabe in 62p. Sorry for the mistake and confusion.

i think you will find Tony whittaker was in 62p in that race and was interviewed afterwards Ah. To be honest, I'm just going off the team lists on the PN Speedway website, I couldn't hear too much of the commentary from where i was, so I missed most of the car/driver changes, other than Skinny Colsen having a skid in Malcolm Ngatai's car.

Ive never seen the wildcats but knew there was quite a bit of hype behind the name. The cars all looked fantastic. Out of curiosity whose car was Robertson driving? Certainly didnt look like his Gordge. It was his stock car; long story...

It was Andy McCabe wasn't it? Regardless a fantastic race. And something interesting was said in the interviews on speedbox. Some of the fans on 3 and 4 were obviously giving Rees heaps after his roll/fire incident and in his words "it pissed him off but it gave him another gear tonight".[/quote] It was Tony Whittaker, Mustangs 6th driver in for Andy McCabe. And the abuse Peter Rees was referring to came in the pits after the first night of the meeting...........not good, fired him up even more ;D

Hemi wins but passs two cars for lead with two wheels on grass. Started maybe 6 rows back. Yes totally true, even herd a driver in that very race comment about Hemi doing that and not a word being said by officials. Further more Rees in semi had wheels over pole while passing cars in turn 1 & 2, one was one of his block cars tangling with the Rotorua car Rees went up inside when really should have been taking outside as he was always going to be over the pole doing what he did. I want to why these were not called on by the Rotorua ref? Or are teams rules different to the rules used at the NZ Stockcar champs where a driver was trailered for having wheel over pole while taking down Rees from memory with the very same ref making the call on that occasion. I in know way am having a go at Hemi or Rees just the way that this ref has been making these calls this season?

64P for Mustangs was Dave Tarrant I believe, who got sent off for an illegal hit, then sent out gate after having a little aggression relief by spinning up the grass.
The illegal hit was the bit that confused me. If it was for sideswiping the stationery car that had been sitting backed into the wall at the end of the straight, whats the rule about hitting a stationery car? I thought if it was still on the track (ie not deemed to be in a dangerous position) it was fair game in case it was just playing possum??

fans grizzling about rees not being put back in semi ? yes he should have but he had 150m of clear track in a run to the line and it wouldnt have made any difference.Maybe you should give credit to rees for one of the greatest individual efforts in a team race that I have seen and also climb in to the Rotorua team who have 4 or 5 cracks at him and couldnt stop him.they had their chances. Anti - P ? this whole smash the P thing is really becoming very boring now and i hope it eventually becomes extinct like the Bring Back Buck (at least BBB was funny and had a bit sense to it). Everyone has their heros and a team they wish to "hate" that is part of sport and whats keeps us coming back for more. But when it leads to abuse of drivers - the actual guys putting body and car on the line - its time to stop and think. Cans being biffed at the panthers during the parade ? drivers being abused in the Pits ? and the lowest of all bengston being pelted when getting out of his rolled car (Mintie I hope you go ahead with your threat to post that blokes photo !) ? Come on people get a grip ! The only thing this will lead to is a far greater security presence with a much harder line (and increased costs of tickets) and banning of fans from the pits after the meeting has commenced. Is this really where its getting to - good grief grow up ! The final Unlike Ritchie Mccaw the Tigers injured captain couldnt get thru and I reckon thats what cost the Tigers. They were a man down after half a lap and the Panthers smelled blood and went for it in one of the most clinical dismantling of an opposition you will see in a final. This ruined the final as a specatacle but even the rabid Tigers supporters behind us had to just sit back and watch a class team show us all how it is done. The whole event was fantastic. Bruce, Puk and the team have been listening to the fans and making adjustments along the way. A transparent draw, independant officials, no toss and team intros between races, great infield commentary. what more could you ask for ? Roll on 2013 !

To me the spirit of the event showed when the Tigers drivers went to the side of the track and applauded the Panthers as they finished their victory lap. They knew they'd been beaten by a better team on the night.
If only some fans (from any number of teams) could show the same level of grace and dignity when their teams lose...but maybe that's too much to hope for.

Even more confusing was the hit on a stationary 63p in turn 1/2 not being picked up on, it was a definate turn in hit but I have no idea by which number

I in know way am having a go at Hemi or Rees just the way that this ref has been making these calls this season? As one of the flag marshals last night, I can say that the spotters placed around the track saw and reported to the ref that Rees had a single wheel on the white concrete pole-line. As the rule book isn't exactly clear what is and is not allowed, (it doesn't actually say you can't put a wheel on the pole-line), it's up to the ref to decide whether Rees gained any advantage from it. Yes Rees probably shouldn't have taken the inside route, but IMO it was a clean pass, and a single wheel on the pole line isn't really an advantage.

The 63p was in what is called an attacking position and is fair game, even though he wasn't moving.

The "smash the p" is fine as long as it doesnt lead to some of the abuse that was clearly made last night. As you say everyone has their heroes and their villains, im not saying the panthers are bad guys either but im sure you get my point. If your getting a bit precious about people not liking your team it might be time to find another sport to spectate because there will always be smash the p (hopefully with less abuse or none) and people are going to voice it. If rotorua had been winning 6 out of the last 7 teams champs and palmy were getting trounced youd get pretty bored with the same old same old time after time but because your a palmy supporter you dont feel that dissapointment, you get the victory with the lads, other tracks want to see a different winner. In saying that, palmy earn it and it cant be taken away from them, yes theres been questionable calls, blah blah blah etc but theyre there, they earn it. But tell me, how interesting would teams be if you new that for the last 6 out 7 years you knew the panthers would win?

Actually one thing id like to ask seeing as theres been a trend as of the last few years..in the history of teams has there been any other questionable calls that have been gotten wrong and affected the outcome of a race?
Excluding the ones we already know about i.e all the panthers related decisions.

Smashed By the P.....
Enuff said. Peter Rees vs Rotorua = Legend Rees and Bengston in the final = Exceptional tactical nous Penn = Super glad he came our of retirement Miers= Broken body but big ticker to keep putting it out there Joblin= Awesome Teams racing potential and the future of the Panthers Hemi= He will be back!! Excellent team man and got to hold the victory flag at the end..New cars getting there and will mean that maybe Shane can retire next year after all...
To Nelson, well done on making the final but clear there had been too much car damage Vs Mustangs and once again came up short.
To all the anti P brigade sorry to disappoint you once again but you must surely be able to see when you open both eyes that this bunch of racers are pretty special..

Id say they know they're a class act, no one can refute that but can you not expect or understand that people want to see the top dog, a clearly strong team beaten? Thats where I'd say smash the p came from.
