How good are these guys ? Pretty darn good in anyones books . The question is , Why do they do so well at teams racing . The theory that to be successful a team needs time to race together so they can gel. Palmy Panthers and Nelson Tigers do well because of their hitouts before the big events , but the Poms seem to throw all those theorys out the window. They turnup , jump in a car thats barely familiar to them apart from Frankie Wainmans and proceed to smash the hell out of their kiwi opponents . All it can come down to is sheer determination and alot of guts . Awesome to see these guys come down and do so well . Good one Great Britain , you put on a great show.

Could it also come down to the brittish F1 racing. They do alot of hit to pass and taking hits when someone else is trying to pass so theyre certainly not new to hits during racing.
That or they've just taken it with both hands and are just that darn good.

Taking a look at their record to date, in mostly borrowed cars with little or no practice (let alone teams racing practice), the Lions are pretty amazing.
2009 LOST v Panthers: 120 - 75 WON v Mustangs: 110 - 85 WON v Hawkeyes: 165 - 20 WON v Stratford: 3rd Overall
2010 WON v Allstars: 170 - 25 WON v Mustangs: 145 - 50 WON v Wanderers: 160 - 35 LOST v Tigers: 2nd Overall
2011 WON v Glen Eagles: 145 - 50 LOST v Scrappers: 140 - 55 WON v Wanderers: 145 - 50 WON v Warriors: 5th Overall
2012 WON v Hawkeyes: 125 - 70 LOST v Panthers: 135 - 60 WON v Glen Eagles: 165 - 0 WON v Rebels: 3rd Overall
They've won three out of four races every time they've entered, and only lost to the Panthers, Tigers and the Scrappers (who made the final that year).
They've beaten the Mustangs (2), Hawkeyes (2), Wanderers (2), Glen Eagles (2), Warriors, Rebels and Allstars - each who contained drivers with a lot more teams racing experience.
Also interestingly, the Lions are unbeaten in the second round, and have only lost once on the whole second night and that was to the Tigers in the final.

A lot of how good they perform in teams racing is to do with there manager/coach I recon. They are very tactical now. Maybe a teams race between the Wildcats and GB before next years event would help both sides.

I like GB, they always have my support and all the drivers did exceptional over the weekend.
They come to NZ, get given some pretty good cars to race and then get to leave the shores for home again.
They dont have to spend all those hours in the shed repairing after night 2.
When you see the results listed like that one would think its just a matter of time until the top dog prize goes back to the uk under the arm of wainman and his talented drivers
On a side note, how old are a couple of these guys. They look pretty fresh

I have to admit that those Brits have done a superb job, and following this years effort I'm almost a full fan. However I find it hard to ignore that they have a pretty handy leg up when it comes to the quality of the equipment they have at their 'disposal' - Frankie aside as it's his own ride, who pays for these cars?? I'm guessing the promoter does as I struggle to believe the likes of Rees would be willing to hand over his 3 meeting old tank for the Brits to use 'just for the spirit of it'. Do the poms themselves pay for this? - I really don't know but it is interesting.
If it is the promoter, then that poses another question - does the promotion then give the same sort of help to other teams - like the Kings? or the Warriors?

Actually, Rees strikes me as the kinda guy that if given half a chance would wind his own tank of the end of the straight at full throttle, then be right there after the race helping fix it.

They are not champagne charlies as inferred on this thread. They work hard at putting the cars back to the state that they borrowed them in. They have some UK sponsorship but the Wainmans are on a very tight budget, they live 3 miles from my mums place in the UK. They simply have a massive passion and dedication to the sport that gets them through. Also cuts both ways when Rees and the likes borrow cars in the UK. Tom Harris and Danny Wainman are both very young.
Why do they do so well at Teams, because the cars are bigger and faster in the UK and usually, maybe Palmy meets excepted, have more cars/contact in 'normal' racing. They are not scared to give or take the big hits.
I've been here 5 years and love teams racing, great toisee NZ with it's smaller population and crowds etc. put on such impressive meets all around the country. Long live stock car racing in both countries.

The Lions read races better than most of our teams Was also impressed with Matt Newson first time over here and first time in a Superstock took to teams racing naturally

in the UK do they do racing like we do? No, they run the best from the back, which is why these guys are on it from the flag and are so good at getting through traffic and have the art of despatching cars in front without losing their own pace.

Well we used to have handicapping, so the fastest and best started up to half a lap behind, for some reason these days we have grid starts at every meeting.
