There are many people that deserve a mention in this thread, and I do apologise if anyone is overlooked but I think some need singling out.
First and foremost I want to thank all the officials from SNZ. The Kihikihi track has had their differences with SNZ, and we can all remember the NZ superstock debacle we encountered, but I am pleased to say that each and every SNZ official present was there doing a great job in tandem with the Kihikihi club to ensure the success of this meeting. Officials come in for plenty of criticism, and here will still be a few calls that people disagree with, but by the by I think the top 3 were deserving of their title and the officials had little bearing on the overall result, which is saying something.
The track, well, what can I say. Paul Wade and Ray Osborne have been the brains trust behind this area, and Paul in particular has been instrumental in turning the track surface around. Even on the Sunday afternoon, whilst the track started to dust up a bit, it still had drive and more than 1 lane, and the dust actually settled down once the top was skimmed off. Imagine the treat we could've had with 2 nights racing though, that Saturday night track was commented on as one of the best Speedway tracks ever seen, and I believe the club and these 2 individuals deserve some credit for making such dramatic progress.
The class reps, ladies and gentlemen, you made life alot easier for me. I think I only had 1 melt down on the finals day, and the effort and experience that you all bought to the event helped to keep things running smoothly off the track.
Ross and Leigh Cresswell, I know how much effort goes in behind the scenes sorting out the little things to make a meeting like this happen.
The entire Kihikihi infield crew, Daniel and his crew have made a vast step up for Kihikihi, and I believe they could hold their heads high on a national stage.
Dean, Jamie and Barry - nice work - I think the information flow was good, and you all compliment each other well. Hope we see you back again at Kihikihi soon. Your guys enthusiasm is infectious.
All the Lap scoring staff - I don't think we had anyone dispute any results, which is brilliant at a championship event.
To all the competitors, thanks for co-operating thru-out the weekend, when it wasn't looking so rosey you all hung around, and I hope we made it worth your while.
And to those fans that turned up to watch, it might have been cold on the Saturday night but I hope you found racing watching under the lights at Kihikihi enjoyable. The Sun was definitely shining on Sunday, and made things a little more dificult, but I still think we had less dust during the day than some larger tracks get racing at night !!
Thats it from me, but if you agree with anything I've said feel free to join me in thanking everyone. Most of these people do it for the love of the sport and not financial gain, so if we show our appreciation where it is deserved they might just keep doing it a little longer.
