You've seen the one on trademe of stockyboys then Z.... The way the motor sits right out in the outrigger would be my guess but some company called sideways engineering in chch is supposed to have made some...is the sidewinder name copyrighted...? This is stockyboys car up Tauranga, I brought his red spacey earlier this yr, wish I'd waited now but then probably couldn't have afforded it anyway.....

I think thats the Mike Hansen bloke down in ChCh, he's been on here a few times, will be interesting to see what these cars look like, The "sidewinder" originally came from Stratford?(could be wrong) Was a fair while ago, and as gibbo said it had the motor set way out to the left.

Think you may find that the original Sidewinder was Simbo's Gordge Gurney Eagle powered spacey 1+3s. Theres been some photos on the Gordge chassis thread.

Those sidewinder chassis have been around for a long time. The sideways engineering chassis are a fancy tri rail design, said to revolutionise the stockcar/superstock class in NZ. I have been waiting several months for some photos to be emailed to me of the sideways engineering sidewinder chassis. Is the company still going ? Am keen on one but maybe may have to look elsewhere for a new chassis for next season as I have heard nothing. As for the sidewinder having a copyright, yeah rite, doesnt take a rocket scientist to check the govt websites and search for copyright, which I did and cannot find any such thing..

HI There all,the chassis that im selling is know as a sidewinder because of the wicked offset it has.I beleive that it was made in stratford.Sorry if i have offended any one who has the copyright but i thought that as it is know as a sidewinder it would be best to advertise it as that.I hope no one has the copyright for spaceframe, flat chassis, offset chassis or tanks or we could all be in trouble when we try and sell them.I to would love to see a sideways engineering sidewinder or at least a photo as they sound great.Im all for something a bit different. ;D

Well i bet Mike has not even looked at getting a copy right? As far as we all know there is no car to be copied seen as we have not seen his chassis yet. I think it would be hard to get a copyright if you have not made the thing yet? I am looking forward to seeing one of these cars. The add in the dirt track says that they will not bend ;D ;D We will see ;D Maybe Mike can post some photos up here for us so we can all see. He was making 6 of these chassis if i remember right so he must have a couple of them done by now. Last i herd he was still going but you never know i see there is no add in the dirt track this month

Heres a pic of the original - i'm not sure if the trade me is the original that went to paul perkins, or the copy he made of it. Both Paul and Joel had one at the same time, then a new one was made for joel that ended up going to Huntly and be raced by Blair ashton as 122h i recall. Autopete (formerlly pete55n) is certainly one of the sharpest with one of the longer memories around - he had this to say on the subject

I hope no one has the copyright for spaceframe, flat chassis, offset chassis or tanks or we could all be in trouble when we try and sell them. Imagine the court costs involved !!! We would all end up like the yanks, all off to court every second day !!!! Are there any of Sideways Engineering Sidewinder (tm) chassis's racing down at Woodford Glen ? This is the home track for these rocketships & they have had 2 practices now, surely there must be one of these cars flying around the track.

it would be reasonable to assume that the sidewinder on trade me is the ex Simbo car as from memory it was the only one that was built with a ford in it. There was also one floating round in Palmy that had a Chev in it I think it was also a genuine Murray Gordge built car. And there is also the Dave Tennant car that from memory had a Holden in it . As I recall that car was raced out of Tauranga by the guy whose surname I think was Butcher. All this is getting a bit hazy now as the memory is far from what it once was , and it wasn't that good even back then. Anyway I don't think Murray ever marketed them as being a Sidewinder they just got labeled as that and the name stuck. As to whether they guy in the South island has copyrighted the name or not I guess it comes back to the old what is a genuine Tank argument and what is not . Who cares the man can call it what ever he wants

Seems that Mike is not building them now There are none of these chassis in Chch. He said he had 8 buyers in other parts of the country though but i would be susprised if he has built one at all ;D

A sift thru threads back a while will show similliar discussions, accusations and rebuttle. Is this the same person bemoaning sponsorship issues on a new thread?

that would be him. you would think if he had so many stockcars to build would be to busy to fix ministocks. and where are these cars keen to see the unbendable chassis.
