Asher Rees was the recipient of the Spike Richardson Memorial Shield for the greatest entertainer over the course of the entire weekend, following on from his dad Pete 12 months ago. Plenty certainly felt his wrath, including Pete while he was trying to adjust his mirror!!!

He had a very good teams champs for sure, but what put him ahead of the likes of Mike Mac (who did a hell of a lot more blocking) or Horse, Fraser etc. Or do you have to be in the winning team or have a P on your car to get this award?

Were you asleep most of both nights Mcfly . Ashers drive in the Mustangs / Busters race was clearly outstanding . Plenty of drivers did a great blocking job throughout the weekend ,but thats part of teams racing .

Here we go again, bringing it back to the 'p' If you read the discription it said 'greatest entertainer over the weekend' This is not always about how many hits are done but also the quality of the hit, (like the weekend ending he did on Friday.) Someone has to pick the award aswell, which may differ from your opinion. Just like you wont always agree with an award at the Emmys for instance, you may hate the movie that won, but someone else liked it enough to nominate it.

No, you don't have to win or have a P on your car. Of the 5 recipients to date only two have been winners or P drivers. From my perspective, not that that counts for much, Asher entertained in all 3 of the races he did, with the Scott Hewson elimination, his rampage against the Busters and his massive hit on his dad in the final. Everybody will never agree on such things obviously, but I guess there's not enough time to get a majority vote from the crowd.

I am not bagging the effort that Asher put in, like I said he drove very well and like basically all the drivers he put in some very good hits. But I also do not think that he was the best entertainer, look at the video board and see how many times he is shown compaired to alot of others. There was alot of hype surrounding Asher and Jack because of thier surnames and age, they both performed very well, but the award was for the best entertainer of the weekend and that they weren't. I appreciate the great job they both did, but in my opinion others were better and I wont get caught up in the hype.

Personally i think the Hit on Hewson, and his rampage against the Buster's were more than enough for him to earn it. This hit on his Dad was just icing on the cake.

One race all weekend earned a standing O from the WHOLE stadium, Rees' run against Baypark. If the award goes for entertainment, it was the right call (still think Higgy should have got it in 2010, though!)

I think that basically sums it up Pete.........the crowd usually pretty much picks it. I've certainly never felt the need before to go and shake the hand of a driver who has just beaten up the team I was supporting ;D ;D ;D

look at the video board and see how many times he is shown compaired to alot of others. The decision is rather obviously made within a couple of minutes of the Final finishing, so judges don't have a chance to consult the macgor's video board before making a decision. And that might have more to do with what the cameramen were following at the time as opposed to what was going on too, but overall most seem happy that Asher took the shield home in 2013.

Well done to Asher.
And I agree with racefan1.. its about entertainment!!!! Its not just about blocking well or putting someone in the wall to stop their race but its about HOW they do it. I was not there or have seen the feed but from the comments on here as well as on FB it seems Master Rees certainly put on a show worthy of the award. Pete must be grinning ear to ear still with pride!!!!

I somehow doubt that Scott Hewson found the Asher Rees hit and the subsequent repair job it caused particularly entertaining. Rees the Younger hit Hewson where it hurts the most; dented pride, and a large hole in the hip pocket ;D
