Could some of the locals tell me the best way to get to WP. We are staying in Papakura on Great south road. to me it looks like we could drive up Great south rd turn left and we would be there. The AA suggests going south back to the motorway then turn onto the road towards Mangere Bridge. What do you reckon, remembering I almost never encounter so much as a traffic light. With traffic how early does it pay to leave the Motel for WP.
Also a bit of advice where to sit at WP would be handy. We tend to bring our own fold out seats, but have every bit of comfort equipment a Speedway follower needs.

I would think the AA is probably right , certainly coming from South that's the way I will be going.
You can really only use your chairs from turn one through to the beginning of turn 3. Up on the hill in turn one would be my choice , can get chilly up there though and dust etc. can be a problem(modifieds). Other than that just before turn 3 should be good.

On a Friday I'd allow about an hour from there, but that can vary HEAPS. The ways to get there from the south are numerous, and while I haven't travelled that way to a meeting in yonks I imagine heading off the Southern Motorway at Manukau and taking the (relatively) new South Western Motorway as far as Onehunga wouldn't be a bad option.

Definately pay to take the south western motorway past manakau, i normally leave at half 4 on friday to get there by half 5 or 6ish depending on traffic. On a saturday id still go the same way but allow 20-25 mins to get there instead.

Snap!! This is the way to go and I would suggest that to take all the pressure off (and seeing you are on holiday!) that you head up early and stop off in Onehunga at one of the cafes for an early dinner to miss the traffic. Then you can take a quick 5 minutes drive down to the park relaxed and ready for the action!

living in Papakura, I find going to WP is easy as on a Friday night as you are going the opposite way to the traffic heading home. I leave work in Mt Wellington at 4.30 and go home to pick up my kids, I leave for the track at 6pm.
Head North down Great South RD and get on to motorway at Takanini. after the Manurewa on ramp move into the LEFT lane. At Manukau go left on to the South Western motorway. Stay on there 10-15min you will go over the Mangere bridge(there will be water both sides) move into LEFT lane, off the bridge take the Onehanga off ramp. The road rolls around under the bridge and you will end up on the right side of the North Western motorway. At the first set of lights turn RIGHT. WP is 500m on your RIGHT. Trip time 30-35min.
Other wise follow me in, just let me know.

Policing the no chairs policy would be great. Chairs take up two rows most of the time and makes it difficult for everyone sitting around them.

Now you guys have me thinking about Onehunga Roasts , wonder if it's as good as it used to be. Just a thought The caterer at the W/p does pay Key money every season to have his buisiness there., was once 45k per yr We do hope a few dollars in his pocket ,could be justified as they help towards the cost of running the sport .of speedway Stans carvery at the springs is quite tasty ,iam sure its the same at wacky park ,unlike the roasts at Onehunga now. iam sure the roast is like possum pie ,or similar .

Well after spending a few days in the absolute Nuthouse some of you call home, I have a new respect for the Aucklanders I have met that appear to be sane, normal, nice human beings. How you don't all don't go out of your tiny wee minds living in that nightmare of a place is beyond me.
