This is worse than filling out a census form. Shortly you will be asking "How many kids have you given birth to for whom you have purchased team merchandise?"

In all seriousness though a 7 team top 4 format throws up some interesting scenario's. If you were just going to pick the top 4 teams then yes the two Palmy teams, Nelson and Baypark would be the obvious 4. But I can't help but look at matchup #3 and think that there are 195 points on offer that those teams can't get.

In a 7 teams format at least one team with a 1-1 record must progress. So if either Waikato or Auckland can win that matchup decisively they may only need to scrape together 30-40 points in their second race to go through.

I do wonder if this will effect team strategies. I can see teams going with a 3 runner 1 blocker strategy. I look at the success Christchurch had against Nelson using this tactic and although Christchurch didn't win they did eliminate any chance of Nelson going through.

I feel that the cut-off will be in the vicinity of 170-190 points.

You've now analyzed the entire meeting as only a numbers man can, and while I hope you're not right for the sake of the Semi's, the good oil is that you're very rarely wrong...........or will some of the other teams in the key match ups have the same idea and accumulate as many points as possible (whilst sustaining as little damage as possible) without actually going for the win unless it is handed to them, targeting their other race as the big points haul?
