It can become an issue if people get in early and reserve large plots for themselves and hangers on. I'm guilty of getting in early on Friday and reserving 3 to 4 seats on the grandstand. Did the same for Saturday but we were always at the venue even if not actually sitting there. Saw some pretty big tarps/blankets laid out and no sign of the occupiers until quite late.
People taking too much advantage could quite easily destroy the opportunity for everyone and that would be a shame.
Same as deck chairs on the top of the grandstand , people using low chairs which is great as they don't block the view of people behind them but taking up the whole of the ledge so the row behind could not be used because people had nowhere to put their feet. Thus we had people sitting on the access stairs.
On normal Saturday nights all of the above is no problem , big meetings require a bit more thought and consideration.

Exactly why should I have to sit in the hot sun for 2hrs while some onelse rolls in with 5 mins to spare because thy have put a tarp down. My point remains how ever it was advertised as gates open at 5 not gates open at 5 but you can get in through the pits. Big meeting like this attract first time spectators it needs to be fair other wise they leave with a bad taste in their mouth.

I think you will find that you can enter earlier via pit gates at a lot of tracks, certainly common practice at Paradise Valley and Waikaraka. Yesterday I past quite a few people who had parked on Neilson St closer to pit gates and were heading round the corner to main entrance. Of course you have to pay with cash at pit gate, which may have been the reason for wanting to que in the sun. You can normally get in from about 3.00pm onwards via pits.

NZs at Nelson was advertised as 4 or 5pm (can't remember) but they started letting public in about 2.30. We got the last few seats on the wooden seats - just a fact of life with big meetings.

What a great crowd it was on Saturday night. Couldn't have fit in many more.
And it was a good natured crowd by and large. People were there to support their team rather than denigrate other teams. There didn't seem to be too many dramas in the area I was sitting in.
Heck I even saw a Busters fan give a Panthers fan a sympathetic hug after the Busters night 1 victory. Not often you get to see some man love on the speedway terraces but the passion people have for their team brought it out!
