hope to get down that way if bus is finished in time getting water tanks etc fitted to become self contained .talk about speedway rules you think there bad ...any way interesting to see they capped motor size to 290 where golden oldies are 310 .this going to cause a conflic .car i sent down there was 350 then down sized to 305 at great expense .thort that club was goin to run same rules an specs otherwise were goin to have problems all over .i have another car in pipe line but not sure at this stage were its going .cheers .L.

so there are now two golden oldie style clubs? with differing rules.....it doesnt matter who was where first...but it seems a real shame to be running two sets of rules which sooner or later will cause a conflab.....and the SNZ factor...is it really necessary to hook up with the national body?....will you lose control over your sport by doing this?...right now the members are setting the agenda I expect...but what happens if SNZ poke their nose into it...are you sure you'll all still be happy having to toe the SNZ line if it ever comes to it?
It seems that there is real growth in "collector" and "enthusiast" racing of former era cars... keeping one set of rules and maintaining your "self determination" would be two vital areas I would have thought.....only an opinion...Z

Expense is the problem, to sleeve back engines to reduce cubes is not easy or cheap to do as one has to find pistons to suit or a crankshaft and rods to suit. Way better to get engines in original factory stock size as easier and cheaper to build or rebuild. 290 max is a good size as it works for 289 Fords, 283 Chevs, 273 Chryslers or anything else under 290 one happens to like or prefer. We are not racing for titles so there is not a problem.

Hi Just an update on progress on the old 41s. The Falcon engine has goone. The 240 Ford V8 is mounted in place. Exhaust headers done, radiator mounted just working through torsion bar brake and clutch pedal mounts. Chopped 200mm out od body width. Classic Club get together on Sunday 19th September at Harrisville, 12 pm start. Barbecue/chinwag / car display. Guys will bring along cars so people can see their progress. Brent indicated weather permitting and as long as the track is not too wet we could see some skids. Photos to follow. Yours In Racing Paul

Hi Just getting ahead of myself in my last post the 19th of Oct is actually the first Meeting at Huntly for the Golden Oldies/Classic Stockcars and our Classic club get together/barby is at Harrisville on Sunday 15th September at 12 oclock . There will be a car display of work in progress and weather permitting maybe some skids on the track. There has been a meeting held between SNZ and the groups involved around the rules /guidlines for running our demonstrations this coming season . We plan to have a draft document which still needs SNZ directors approval there for people to read and by all reports it is all about clarifying what we have been doing in the past , making sure the cars are safe to be on the track and that we are doing the laps in the spirit that it has been intended .
Yours in Racing Paul Urlich 41s

have been talking to a lot of past an present members of golden oldies an weve lost a few ...it appears now that we have two clubs with totally different rules .in breif your club is running space & flat chassies & fiber bodies .engine configerations fine .85 on wards or exceptions for notible retired cars .no contact.GOLDEN OLDIES flat chassies & tin bodies only no fiber bodies but contact .so your club cannot run with oldies but g/oldies can run with your club .on checking ive found that fibre bodies were running in the earlie 80.s an also there are very few tin bodied cars still in existant .i have a here car built in 84 it has a fibre body .this body rule needs to be addressed .ive brought this out in the open as there seems to be lake of communication an disscussion amoungts the lay members .secrete meetings behind members backs as in my case .i was one of the original members an on 1st committee that wrote some of the engine rules etc we had news letters .but new committee . rules need to brought into one line..

Hi I would just like to clarify a few things. The CCSSC will be running class 2 and class 3 with in the SNZ rules. (These classes will not be running together.) It is Our understanding that the Waikato Golden Oldies are only going to be running class 2 and the Historic Club is only going to be running class 1. (If you wish a copy of the rules please feel free to contact your club or SNZ for a copy as these are available to everybody.) Each club has the right to have club rules, but these should with in the guides of SNZ rules. So the WGO are with in there rights to have the rule of tin bodies flat chassis only BUT our club has the rule that if a car was built with a tin body then it must have the same tin body it was built with, if it was built with a fibre body then that is what it must be restored with. (This has to be backed up with photos and documentation.) Because the year of the car has changed since the forming of the WGO to 1985 cut off we feel that there is cars that were built brand new with fibre bodies. So Porry41 If the car that you have can be proved to have a fibre body and built in 84 then it would qualify in class 2 in our club. But Huntly Speedway have opted to say that NO STEEL BODY NO RACE. ( this from a club that had new cars racing with the old cars the last few season.) We have ask the club why they have ruled this but yet to receive a reply. As far as we know no other club has made this ruling yet. We have the rule that our club members to race are to be over 45 and the WGO do not have a age rule any more but we would not stop their members from racing with us. Every club has the right to have their rules but why should these rules impede any of any other clubs members from competing with in SNZ rules on SNZ Tracks. The SNZ Rules are the rules that should be enforced on SNZ tracks not the Clubs Rules.
