feel for Kerry remenant , this is why I believe all tracks should have at least 1 tractor as a recovery vehicle with a bucket , far better reach and control to lower vehicles with out causing more damage

Don't know what happened to Kerry. It would need to be a very Large tractor to lift 1.5 tonnes on the end of a bucket. would be out of most tracks budget to buy such a machine

see it quite regularly, and we not talking about lifting whole car, just some of the weight and lowering to the ground softly so not to damage more parts

And for those playing the "what happened next" game - they put a cable onto the bumper and pulled it over so it dropped on it's side. Then rolled it back onto it's wheels.
Couple of tracks that I have seen that have good recovery solutions:
Stratford: has 3 tractors, including with rear attachment lifts, as well as bucket arms on the front, plus wood push bumpers on the front. Te Marua: the big meetings I have been to there has always been a 8-wheeler flat deck truck with a Hiab just through the pit gates. Very handy for picking up badly damaged cars!

They could have (should have) put one or two other tow vehicles on the rear side to control the descent.

Yea a bucket is going to solve the problem 100% Ok, so not the bucket itself but the lift arm on the front of the tractor. We use these at Huntly very successfully. Any vehicle stuck up on the wall or fence has a chain attached and is lowered to the ground. No additional damage caused. Suggest other tracks look at this option if they can as tow trucks alone cannot achieve this.

Rotorua also uses tractor with front end loader successfully

Think it comes down to the fact that a tractor with a FEL is not designed for that sort of use so someone would be in the gun big time if someone got hurt while doing it. To safely put it back to the ground from that position without causing anymore damage you would need a crane which is unrealistic and a car that ends up in that position would of had a pretty harsh ride causing it damage to start with anyway. Stockcars are Stockcars and shouldn't be confused with hot rods.

I actually think more damage may have been caused bringing this back to its wheels than from the incident, no they are not hot rods but still have gear that does not need to be broken uneccisarily, and it not just stockcars but other classes as well, when cars get hooked sometimes easier to lift one than drag apart

I believe that under normal situations they are carefull with how the car comes down if it is a superstock more then a stockcar. I have gone off many a times how they treat stockcars, and streetstocks . They forget that no matter what class you run that is your pride and joy. just my view.

I am the guy just above and left of the person in the pink hat in the photo. The infield crew were deciding how to move the car and the driver said to the "just dont damage the car" he looked gutted when he saw them pull it over. I am a Waikaraka regular and ex pit crew member, it was totally needless to have done what they did. The driver just turned his back in disgust when they pulled it upright.

Even with the gear they had, they could of pushed it towards the wall with a few people and let the front come down against the fence / on top of the wall then hook on to the back bumper and slowly pull it backwards, the front would have slid down the wall and left it sitting on the wheels. Would have been a lot easier on the car instead of yanking it over onto its side like they did.

Even with the gear they had, they could of pushed it towards the wall with a few people yeah that sounds really safe around about 1500kg remember. But they will be all set next year because all you "should of's and could of's" will go and show them how to do it aye?? TUI

But wasn't the way they did ok?. Seems to me most of the landing impact was on the siderails, not as though it was expensive suspension bits taking the load.
