so they are allowed to continue to run with a wall that crumbles and has chunks fall off even if the car that hits it is a saloon or midget? SNZ has a minimum standard that each tracks wall has to be at in order to have an SNZ sanctioned meeting - if the wall is not at that standard they get fined. Im amazed waikaraka's wall has not slipped below that standard - or that it has not been noticed by SNZ given that half the country knows its too soft and crumbles too much. Are Waikaraka allowed to put saving money above competitor safety? thats what it boils down to. if they dont repair - properly - or replace the whole wall soon its gonna do some serious damage to someone important and the place will be shut down. I agree, If the club is to continue on with the current wall issue I can see drivers getting hurt and those in the crowd wearing more concrete. Its expensive yes, but its something that money should have been put aside for. As a driver id be happy to take 5% less prizemoney to see the money put into the wall replacement. It doesnt sound a lot but over a season it adds up. Its been an issue for a few seasons now so no excuses really. I am led to believe they are doing some more than just slap of filler in the corners. going to repair complete wall from start turn 3 to end of turn 4. Not a full replacement but a bigger than normal make over...here is hoping

Waikaraka park is getting much better. In my opinion as I and most people are not at all interested in six shooters or minisprints. So where is a new driver trying to get into the sport, thats based in Auckland, Supposed to race? This Attitude is the exact reason why the Minisprint fields are so small up here in the North of the North island! If your not going to regularly put them on the program then there is not going to be much interest in the class simply because people cant race them at their 'Local' club. You just have to look at the tracks that run them on a regular basis and they have plenty of cars. Palmy, Wellington, Stratford etc. And by not running a decent feeder class the other classes are fading cause the core of the drivers dont have anywhere to start once they are out of ministocks, only a small percentage would have the backing to jump straight into a Modified or Saloon. Or, the learner driver has to go race a TQ or F2 at the Springs cause really, he has not choice! cause Waikarka dosnt give you any options. Well if you actually want to go fast that is. I constantly hear the same "our sport wont survive" and "where will the competitors come from" type of comments about mini stocks. Cracks me up and makes me wonder how our sport survived and indeed grew/prospered prior to the turn of the century without all of these 'critical feeder classes'.

Fairly sure it didn't cost Gisborne 1 million to replace theirs when they banked the track.

Theyve said that it will happen for the last five years running and have knowen it needed work for at least two before that - I have a relative who has said the wall has needed proper repair for almost ten years, but it simply gets patched up each season instead.

I don't like the way this thread is going.
Is this genuine concern or the beginning of a long season of Waikaraka bashing?
It isn't too hard you know, to ring people and alleviate any genuine concerns any of you may actually have about the 'park. But it is sooo much easier to throw muck without any knowledge of WP and sound so important behind your keyboards.
1) The club is in VERY good financial condition.
2) The wall is undergoing pre season major repair.
3) None of you are in any way helping in any of this.
I hope you are as 'keen' to 'help' all the other clubs, as you are to 'help' Waikaraka.

Wasn't saying that every youngster should get into a saloon. We really don't want a bunch of jumped up little primadonnas burning daddy's money to wherever they think they are going. There's already a class for them, TQ's. The point of my post was to highlight that there seems to be a misconception that they are expensive to run. From personal experience cheaper than a TQ and reasons 1) Components cheaper 2) Generally less accidents as race on a smooth surface unlike offload surfaces at WS. And standard of driving appears better and actual officialdom exists at non WS tracks.
Besides there's tons of tracks to run on and they are great fun for middle aged racers. Seriously though a good option for younger ones too.

"Relationship" in terms of the split of responsibility between club and promoter, not whether two fellas like each other or not...

Dude, wacky park has had a reputation for a while now - and threads like this is the result of that reputation. But like I said - I hope Im wrong this time.
